Cork to reclaim tallest building title after 10-day concrete pour

Cork is set to reclaim the title of Ireland’s tallest residential building as the central core of the 25-storey Railyard development on the former Sextant site was completed on Saturday. The 85.5m-high tower and adjacent buildings will deliver 217 homes when complete. The Railyard Apartment Scheme is the result of a collaborative partnership between Cork City Council, Clúid, and JCD Group. Specialist contractor Slipform Engineering commenced pouring the lift and stair core on Wednesday, March 18.

HMV returns to Cork opening its third Irish outlet in Merchant's Quay

Music and record chain HMV is to open a new store in Cork, more than ten years after it departed the city, highlighting the resurgence in demand for physical media. The iconic UK brand confirmed to the Irish Examiner that it is to take up space in the Merchant's Quay Shopping Centre and has begun recruiting for positions in the store. However, the company has yet to announce an opening date. It’ll be HMV’s third store in Ireland, following openings in Dublin and Limerick.
