Reflections on language
Why are there over 6,000 different languages in the world? It followed the judgment of God that took place when man started to build the Tower of Babel. Before that, everyone spoke the same language, and surely one day we will all speak the same language again. During the Day of Pentecost in AD 33, something remarkable happened. The Greek- and Hebrew-speaking apostles were given the gift of being able to speak in multiple other languages.
Reflections on faithfulness
What does it mean to be faithful? One of my favourite Bible characters is Baruch. He is an unsung hero; I suspect many Christians do not even recognise the name. Baruch is a hero because without him we would not have the book of Jeremiah nor probably Lamentations. If Baruch had not been faithful then, humanly speaking, our Bible would be two books short! Baruch's faithfulness How do we see the faithfulness of Baruch? We find out in Jeremiah 36 and 45.
Reflections on public prayer
Previously, I wrote an article about prayer in which I concentrated on our private prayer life, including how we might pray in a prayer meeting. I now want to talk about when we are called upon to lead a congregation in prayer – in other words, public prayer. This might be in a service of worship on the Lord’s Day, but it might also be at other meetings such as a funeral, a church Bible study, or a church members’ meeting.
Reflections on private prayer
How vital is prayer! I became a Christian by praying. Almost my first act after becoming a Christian was to thank God in prayer. In this article I want to concentrate on this vital topic, particularly private prayer. On becoming a Christian in 1976, I soon discovered the joy of praying with other Christians, but I also discovered that there were different ways that people prayed. Some (usually men) prayed long prayers that often covered the same themes.
Reflections… on worship
In October 1976 when I was a 20-year-old student at Reading University, I fell on my knees, repented of my sins, and believed on Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Now, nearly 50 years later, I reflect as a sinner saved by grace upon what has happened in my life and in the Christian world since then. This is the first of a series of articles entitled Reflections. Soon after I was saved, I discovered the joy of Lord's Day worship.

Today’s announcement follows the official opening of The Pharmacy WA Forum 2024, by Western Australian Premier, The Hon. Roger Cook MLA, who commented on the potential to expand pharmacist scope of practice to progress towards autonomous prescribing. The ability to autonomously prescribe for a broad range of conditions offers an exciting step in community pharmacies’ ability to provide healthcare for all Western Australians.

Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA. “Western Australian women can choose to be resupplied with their oral contraceptive pills at a community pharmacy, a statewide network operating at over 660 locations,” said Ms Willis.
User Benefits of Programmable Power Supplies with Digital Cores
Although some power conversion products have digital interfaces only for simple control and monitoring, this can still be advantageous. For example, in critical systems - where knowledge of degradation or change can warn of impending failure, or perhaps where remote adjustment of the output voltage by a small amount can give some dynamic energy savings.
The cursing psalms
We all love reading the Psalms, and we should all love singing the psalms or hymns based upon them. They are so full of comfort and help; so full of real life. But every now and then we read some verses that shock and surprise us. Consider Psalm 137. It begins as a sad lament, sung by God’s people in exile: By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept When we remembered Zion. We hung our harps upon the willows in the midst of it.
Jephthah’s vow
Most of the history in the Bible is crystal clear. There is little doubt as to what happened. But occasionally there are events that leave us perplexed – so perplexed that Bible-believing Christians come to radically different conclusions as to what happened.
AT&T and UTK Collaborate on the Future of 5G Wireless Broadband
By Alan Hill The future story of 5G wireless technology is being written today here in Knoxville. Earlier this year, AT&T and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, launched a new AT&T 5G Lab at the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. Under the leadership of the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development with the Tickle College of Engineering, researchers will work on projects examining potential applications of a 5G+ millimeter wave spectrum network.

Guest opinion: Utah County Commissioners snub affordable housing initiative
Utah County Commissioners just awarded $10.5MM of ARPA funds to medical projects. In 2021, Utah County Government was given federal funds for COVID recovery through the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) program, part of the American Rescue Plan Act. According to Commissioner Tom Sakievich, the county received approximately $123MM.
God contracted to a span: Five contrasts at Christmas
One of the greatest hymn writers of all time is Charles Wesley. He was the younger brother of John Wesley, the great gospel preacher of the 18th century. We see Charles’s greatness in a Christmas hymn that he wrote. Here are the lyrics of the first verse. What is Charles getting at here? To human minds, it is truly beyond our understanding how God became a man, yet remained God: contracted to a span, incomprehensibly made man. The Son of God is all-powerful, almighty, all-knowing, and all-seeing.

Scripture’s hidden gems: Revelation (Part 2)
In this series Alan Hill surveys some of the lesser-known books of Scripture. In Part 1 we considered how the final book of the Bible has a clear and central theme: our Lord is on the throne, and he is coming back. We saw that the marvel of Revelation is that the entire book is for us now: it helps us now; it comforts us now; it guides us now. It is a book written for all ages and all Christians.
Scripture’s hidden gems: Revelation (Part 1)
In this series Alan Hill surveys some of the lesser-known books of Scripture. It is with some trepidation that I write these last two articles in the series Scripture’s hidden gems.
Scripture’s hidden gems: 3 John
In this series Alan Hill surveys some of the lesser-known books of Scripture. The third letter of the apostle John is the shortest book in the Bible. It is only a few hundred words long, but God saw to it that it was included in the canon of Holy Scripture. Like a rare pearl washed up on a beach, this brief letter from 2,000 years ago may be small and easy to miss, but it remains precious and worthy of attention. 3 John is about two people who were very different spiritually.
Scripture’s hidden gems: Ezekiel
In this series Alan Hill surveys some of the lesser-known books of Scripture. If you like reading, then you’ll know that a good book has a beginning that grabs your attention and an ending that is satisfying. For many Christians, Ezekiel fails this test. Some find the vision of the first chapter incomprehensible. Others find the last nine chapters of no relevance to their Christian life.

Scripture’s hidden gems: Proverbs
In this series Alan Hill surveys some of the lesser-known books of Scripture. Everyone knows that Proverbs contains proverbs, and lots of them. There are over 900, in fact. It is here that we find great wisdom expressed in few words. The book of Proverbs is like a mirror to show us our defects and a guidebook to show us how to live. All ranks of life are covered: young and old, men and women, rich and poor.
Scripture’s hidden gems: 1 Chronicles
We live in days when many in the UK are seeking to silence those who hold to certain biblical truths. They wish to prevent preachers declaring that biological sex is fixed. They wish to silence the teaching that biological sex (determined by one’s genes) is the same as gender. They wish to prevent anyone declaring that homosexuality and lesbianism are sins. By any standards 1 and 2 Chronicles are an important part of God’s Word.

In the presence of my enemies
A R T I C L E By Rosaria Butterfield The table was set with unfussy Corelle dishes, yellow paisley cloth napkins, and water glasses. One of the pastor’s sons, a colleague of mine from the university, pulled a gallon plastic jug of water out of the refrigerator and started filling the water glasses. ‘It’s not filtered water. I just like it cold,’ Pastor Ken Smith laughed as he greeted me with a warm handshake and pulled me gently but firmly over the threshold.
Scripture’s hidden gems: Leviticus
In this series Alan Hill surveys some of the lesser-known books of Scripture. The Indian civil rights leader Mahatma Gandhi once read through the Bible. Upon reading Leviticus he said that the book ‘appeared to be full of procedures and practices that have nothing to say or do with the church’. Many think the same way today, and Leviticus remains unread and unstudied by many Christians. However, no book in the Bible contains more of the direct words of God than Leviticus.

Frozen Peaches on Banana Skins
First things first, I haven’t read Andrew Doyle’s new book “Free Speech and Why It Matters”. I don’t completely rule out reading it - if someone was to send/lend me a copy then I’d probably take a look; it is quite short after all, and a lot of people will read it so some might say it might behove me to know what it says. But in a way, it’s just as interesting to see how what he says gets filtered through the mind of his audience.

Habitat for Humanity: Habit for Humanity of Utah County changed our lives
I’m still relatively new to Utah County, and it’s the one question that always seems to come up when you meet someone new: “So, what do you do?” I’ve had a lot of different answers to this question over the years. Interestingly enough, my answer today almost always elicits my favorite response. “Wow, that’s pretty cool, and I love Habitat for Humanity.” Truth be told, it is really cool and has changed my and my family’s life in more ways than I have time for in this article.
How Hands-on Nursing Home Ownership Works
9/25/2020 Alan Hill Page Content At times, it seems appropriate to highlight the way in which nursing homes operate in the real world versus some of the misperceptions that can cloud the views of what we do in the long term and post-acute care profession. A case in point is the idea that owners of skilled nursing centers are not involved or care about the residents who live in their buildings.
Habitat For Humanity: Home is where it all begins
Home is more than where we live. It’s where everything begins. Home is where we start and raise our family. Home is where we teach our children right from wrong; that what is just from that what is unjust. Home is now where our kids go to school and where we go to work. Home is where new entrepreneurs and start-ups build their dream. Home is where we gather around a table with friends and family, and build the bonds that build our community. If there is no home, there is no community.

Judged and delivered - spiritual lessons from the times of the Judges
This is an excellent exposition of Judges, written by the pastor of an English-speaking church in Switzerland. Based on a sermon series, it is readable yet comprehensive; warm in tone, yet forthright in exhortation. Judges covers an early period in biblical history. It traces the 350 years between the conquest of Canaan under Joshua and the establishment of a monarchy under King Saul. It was a dark period in Israel’s history, with many bouts of apostasy and foreign oppression.
The Brexit Dilemma
The U.K. left the Exchange Rate Mechanism twenty-five years ago. In fact, it was twenty-five years ago to the day on Saturday just gone. September 16th, 1992, a day that should have split the U.K. Conservative party in two and would have done had it had a decisive leader. John Major was a weak Prime Minister not dissimilar to Theresa May.
