4th tornado confirmed from Tuesday severe weather outbreak in Oswego, Illinois
The National Weather Service has confirmed a fourth tornado touched down during the severe weather outbreak in Illinois and Indiana Tuesday. The latest confirmed tornado was an EF-0 that touched down in Oswego, Illinois, during the first warning of the day around 10:15 a.m. EF-0 tornadoes have winds between 65 and 85 mph. The NWS confirmed three other tornadoes, all in Chiago's south suburbs, in the immediate aftermath of the storms.
Doppler-radar confirmed tornado blasts through Chicago's south suburbs
A tornado blasted through Chicago's south suburbs during the midday hours Tuesday. Confirmed by Doppler radar, the large tornado was believed to be an EF-2 at minimum. The tornado was also rain-wrapped, and thus could not be seen easily. South suburban communities including Flossmoor, Homewood, Thornton, and Glenwood were affected by the tornado. Soon afterward, the tornado passed in Northwest Indiana. This was one of at least two tornadoes on the ground as of just before 11 a.m.

The National Weather Service will survey the area near Ransom, Illinois, after a reported tornado touchdown overnight in LaSalle County. A tornado was reported to be on the ground in southeastern LaSalle County about 5 miles west of Ransom around 11:45 p.m. Sunday night. Weather radar detected a debris signature along N. 17th Road between East 20th Road and East 24th Road. CBS Skywatch flew over the area Monday morning, where damage at several farms was apparent.

Chicagoans were likely awoken by thunderclaps as loud and intense as explosions overnight Sunday into Monday — and another round of heavy rain with flooded roads and downed trees came along with it. The overnight storms followed less than 12 hours after another round of storms likewise caused flooding and other damage around the Chicago area. Overnight, motorists were seen driving gingerly in the Avondale neighborhood as heavy rain and strong winds clobbered the streets.

A 2.9 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in Lake Michigan off the coast of Chicago's northern suburbs Wednesday afternoon. The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was recorded about 20 kilometers, or about 12.5 miles, off east-northeast of Kenilworth, Illinois at approximately 2:38 p.m. USGS said there have been reports that the quake was felt in multiple north suburbs including Evanston, Deerfield, Kenilworth, and as far north as Waukegan.

Currently areas south of I-80 are under a level 4 out of 5 moderate risk for severe weather Wednesday. Once again there are two rounds of storms expected.

Winter weather advisories were issued for parts of Illinois starting at 10 p.m. on Sunday and are expected to last until Monday afternoon. A Blizzard Warning was issued from 10 p.m. Sunday to 1 p.m. Monday for McHenry and DeKalb counties in Illinois, where wind gusts of around 50 mph are likely between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Boone, Lee, Ogle, and Winnebago counties, including Rockford, which is in effect on Sunday and will last until 1 p.m. Monday.

Beginning shorty after 9 p.m., lightning began flashing and thunder began rolling in downtown Chicago, as pouring rain began falling off and on.

A 3.3 magnitude earthquake was confirmed near Lerna, Illinois, late Monday night. The earthquake, confirmed by the United States Geological Survey, was reported in Coles County SSW of Lerna, Illinois which is close to Mattoon, Illinois. According to reports from WCIA in Central Illinois, the earthquake was reported just before 11:45 p.m. WCIA said shaking was felt throughout the area, but the Coles-Moultrie County 911 CECOM has not received any reports of damage or calls for assistance.

Secondary threats include storms producing large hail and an isolated tornado. For most of the area, the severe risk is a level 2 out of 5, and the flash flood threat has elevated as well.

But the fog was expected to last no more than two hours. The lakeside breeze on Friday was to credit for the fog.
