A middle school teacher in Libertyville, Illinois, is facing child pornography charges for allegedly using artificial intelligence to alter images of local students and create explicit images. Marshall Steffer, 44, is a social studies teacher at Highland Middle School and a school district employee for nearly 20 years. Officials said he took photos and videos of current and former students and then used generative AI to alter them into pornographic images.

Two Chicago police officers were hurt along with a civilian on the city's South Side Friday afternoon. Reports of officers down near 79th and Chappel on the border of South Shore and South Chicago shortly after 5 p.m. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it was responding to an officer-involved shooting in the 2000 block of E. 78th Street, but did not offer any further details.

3 dead after boat capsizes on Geneva during severe storm; source says victims are children

Three people died on Geneva Lake in Wisconsin after a boat capsized during a severe storm Friday. A source told CBS News Chicago the fatalities were children. The source said a group was out on Geneva Lake when severe storms suddenly moved in, causing the boat to flip in the water. The Walworth County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a boat had capsized during the storm and said after a large search, seven people were rescued and an additional three fatalities were reported.
