Clop targets PTC Windchill with custom backdoor in mass extortion campaign

A cybercrime group known for exploiting software vulnerabilities to carry out large-scale hacks is now targeting a product lifecycle management tool using a custom backdoor. Over 40 organizations have already been named as alleged victims in the latest campaign. Clop is a financial crime group that has been estimated to have extorted $500 million through large-scale zero-day exploits. The group previously targeted MOVEit, GoAnywhere, and Accellion file-transfer products for extortion campaigns.

A fake ransomware negotiator is exploiting victims and stealing funds, new report claims

A new report from GuidePoint Security has warned organizations to be wary of companies posing as ransomware negotiators. As a specific example, GuidePoint argued that the Ransom Busters recovery service might actually be a front for hackers. According to GuidePoint’s report, several ransomware victims have recently received emails from a company called Ransom Busters.

JFrog Artifactory Flaws Enable Software Supply Chain Attacks

Two vulnerabilities in JFrog Artifactory have been found which allow anonymous or low-privileged users to manipulate package metadata without modifying the underlying artifacts, creating a potential route to software supply chain compromise. Oligo Security reported the flaws to JFrog on June 25 and detailed them in research published on August 20.
