Abstract Several high-risk medical devices for children have become unavailable in the European Union (EU), since requirements and costs for device certification increased markedly due to the EU Medical Device Regulation. The EU-funded CORE-MD project held a workshop in January 2023 with experts from various child health specialties, representatives of European paediatric associations, a regulatory authority and the European Commission Directorate General Health and Food Safety.

Dear Editor, I read this article with interest and applaud the authors for making the correct diagnosis from this rare clinical scenario and raising readers' awareness of this phenomenon. It is an excellent learning point. However, the authors are incorrect in stating that such a lesion in an adult is easily confused with haemangiomas. The only lesion this could be confused with is a pyogenic granuloma. Haemangiomas are a disease of infancy (1).
