Some Lexington County roads are closed for emergency inspection, SCDOT says

Portions of a busy road in Lexington County are closed for emergency inspections, the South Carolina Department of Transportation announced Friday. SCDOT is temporarily closing the inside lanes of Interstate 20 in both directions at Mineral Springs bridge. One eastbound lane is closed this afternoon for an emergency inspection, according to a news release. At 6 p.m. crews will also close one westbound lane. Officials said crews will inspect, repair and clean up the road before reopening it.

Police say stolen truck flees, crashes into other cars during SC traffic stop

Two people are critically injured after a crash involving a stolen truck on Thursday, according to the Sumter Police Department. Officials said a Sumter police officer initiated a traffic stop of a truck around 12:43 p.m. on Alice Drive near Gion Street when the driver, Shamona Nicole McFadden, 45, sped away and crashed into two other vehicles. The truck was reported stolen in Richland County.
