Decarbonizing Construction: Strategies for a Sustainable Industry
Despite growing awareness among industry leaders of the need to decarbonize, the process is much easier said than done. The construction industry is one of the largest and most indispensable market sectors for global development, accounting for 14.2% of global GDP and employing over 10 million individuals in the United States alone. Yet the industry is also one of the heaviest polluters in the world, producing 40% of total global carbon emissions.
Construction's Transition to Cleaner Energy Sources
The construction industry is beginning to feel the slow, inexorable push to go green. This is because our current reliance on nonrenewable energy sources is starting to cause problems in the sector and beyond. For example, in the U.S. construction sector, almost 98 percent of all energy use comes from diesel. This is a problem for multiple reasons. First, just last year, diesel prices soared by 33 percent. Second, nonrenewable energy sources are finite and in increasingly short supply.

Precision Medicine: UGT1A1 Genotyping to Better Manage Irinotecan-Induced Toxicity
Like a Star Wars robot's name, UGT1A1 (UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1-1) is an enzyme encoded by the UGT1A1 gene, located in the 2q37 chromosome, frequently involved in some drug's metabolism, sex hormones, corticoids, bile acids, bilirubin, retinoids, and environmental mutagens.

Phase I/II trial of sequential treatment of nab-paclitaxel in combination with gemcitabine followed by modified FOLFOX chemotherapy in patients with untreated metastatic exocrine pancreatic cancer: Phase I results
Highlights • FOLFOX after nab-paclitaxel + GEM considered one of the first-line PDAC treatments. • Nab-paclitaxel + GEM followed by FOLFOX had an acceptable safety/tolerability profile. • No dose de-escalation was need since only one patient experienced DLT.

First-line panitumumab plus FOLFOX4 or FOLFIRI in colorectal cancer with multiple or unresectable liver metastases: A randomised, phase II trial (PLANET-TTD) - European Journal of Cancer
This is the first trial reporting a head-to-head comparison between Pmab-FOLFOX4 and Pmab-FOLFIRI in a first-line mCRC setting. Both chemotherapy regimens have similar activity when used without biologicals [27][27]. Pmab improves outcomes when added to either FOLFOX [19][19] or FOLFIRI [[4], [20]], without compromising quality of life [28][28].
Benefit of Surveillance for Pancreatic Cancer in High-Risk Individuals: Outcome of Long-Term Prospective Follow-Up Studies From Three European Expert Centers
|
Purpose Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a poor prognosis. Hereditary factors play a role in the development of PDAC in 3% to 5% of all patients. Surveillance of high-risk groups, may facilitate detection of PDAC at an early stage. The aim of this study was to assess whether surveillance aids detection of early-stage PDAC or precursor lesions (PRLs) and improves the prognosis.
