Judges’ comment: "The Los Angeles Times reporters produced a stunning, well-written and researched report, combining facts with heart-wrenching stories about the impact of nuclear bomb testing."
Second Place Judges' comments: "Reporters Carolyn Cole, Ali Raj and Susanne Rust, with strong multimedia and data analysis from a Los Angeles Times team, documented how nuclear fallout from United States government tests and climate change in the Marshall Islands have damaged coral, created fishkill and left in disrepair the Runit Dome, a massive radioactive waste facility. They revealed not just the tragedies of the islands and their nearby atolls, but the efforts of the U.S. government to obscure the truth from Marshallese government officials."
