Who Cares Whether Academics Use AI to Write?
A professional journal recently accepted an article of mine. The editor congratulated me on the acceptance and then made an unusual request. Could I submit another draft written “in my voice,” since this one had some sentences that “read like something written by AI”? If I preferred, the editors would revise the piece themselves, ostensibly to “humanize” it, and I could approve their changes. Because I was first trained as a mathematician, I probably write more like an AI than most people.
AI Makes Me a Better Writer
The machine can bolster your thinking if you know what to delegate and what you need to do yourself. New York imposes the first statewide moratorium Is artificial intelligence the enemy of creativity? It doesn’t have to be. AI didn’t write this article, but it helped me write it. I have been writing with AI since the release of ChatGPT in 2022. Here are some pointers I’ve developed: • Never outsource the truly important parts.

DOGE threat: How government data would give an AI company extraordinary power
The Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has secured unprecedented access to at least seven sensitive federal databases, including those of the Internal Revenue Service and Social Security Administration. This access has sparked fears about cybersecurity vulnerabilities and privacy violations. Another concern has received far less attention: the potential use of the data to train a private company’s artificial intelligence systems.

Efficiency − or empire? How Elon Musk’s hostile takeover could end government as we know it
Musk has been appointed what is called a “special government employee” in charge of the White House office formerly known as the U.S. Digital Service, which was renamed the U.S. DOGE Service on the first day of President Donald Trump’s second term. The Musk team’s purported goals are to maximize efficiency and to eliminate waste and redundancy. One historical parallel in particular is striking.

Trump’s Ticking Time Bombs: the Budget, the Billionaire and the Ballot
No president in modern history has so dominated a party as Donald Trump. With the general public, his approval ratings stand at 44%, according to the latest Ipsos/Reuters poll this week. But when you survey just Republicans, Trump enjoys 93% approval, according to a Gallup poll released this month. With Trump controlling Republicans – and Republicans controlling both houses of Congress – the legislature has become a wholly Trump-owned subsidiary.

Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has dominated headlines as President Donald Trump’s government efficiency czar by taking a sledgehammer to entire government agencies and imposing radical cuts to staff and spending. How Elon Musk’s DOGE Could End the U.S. Government as We Know It
4 hours ago Let's hope Elon Musk is, indeed, a latter-day Ulysses S. Grant, doggedly pursuing the spending that strangles our country. Like a canoe heading for a waterfall, the U.S. government simply can’t sustain itself on its current course. We’re $36 trillion (that’s $36,000,000,000,000.00) in debt, a number …

The Difference Between TikTok and Free Expression
In ruling Friday on the future of the social-media app TikTok, the Supreme Court understood it was dealing with a novel issue. “We are conscious that the cases before us involve new technologies with transformative capabilities,” the justices declared in a per curiam opinion.
The One Internet Hack That Could Save Everything
It no longer makes sense to speak of free speech in traditional terms. The internet has so transformed the nature of the speaker that the definition of speech itself has changed. The new speech is governed by the allocation of virality. People cannot simply speak for themselves, for there is always a mysterious algorithm in the room that has independently set the volume of the speaker’s voice. If one is to be heard, one must speak in part to one’s human audience, in part to the algorithm.
