Alva Solomon is a Guyanese journalist who has been working in the journalism field since July 2007. He started his career in the local Guyanese media as a proof reader with the privately-owned Stabroek News, a national newspaper of wide circulation. A charity offering rehabilitation services to people in recovery has been given $20,000 by HSBC Bermuda for its horticulture programme. The award to Focus Counselling Services, in recognition of World Drug Day on June 26, will support its Root and Rise project. The charity started the programme in 2023, using gardening to help residents build a new-found sense of self.

A forum hosted by a candidate contesting the leadership of the Progressive Labour Party was only open to party members. A statement from the team of Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, said the event at Francis Patton Primary on Tuesday was made by a branch request. "This was not a public meeting and therefore admittance was restricted to PLP members only," the statement read.

Alexa Lightbourne made the statement as she supported recent electricity rate changes announced by Belco. "The unbundling of rates is welcome - that clarity is long overdue," Ms Lightbourne said.
