More than 20,000 people submitted RSVPs to attend a free World Cup watch party Thursday hosted by the San Jose Earthquakes soccer club and the city downtown in San Pedro Square, organizers said.

East Bay nurse slain in Oakland mourned

(KRON) — An East Bay nurse with a large social media following was slain in West Oakland when someone allegedly tried to rob him. Lartey Solomon, who went by the influencer name “Nurse Solomon” on TikTok, was identified by a verified GoFundMe page as the homicide victim. Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, is charged with murder. Prosecutors said Daniels attempted to rob the victim and shot him at 2:45 a.m. on May 31 while the victim was walking to his car in the area of 14th and Harrison streets.

San Jose police standoff ends with 1 arrest

(KRON) — A man was arrested following a standoff with San Jose police. John Torres Jr., 32, was wanted in connection to a violent assault that occurred in a large apartment complex at The Woods Drive on April 11, police said. In broad daylight, Torres was armed with a gun when he attacked and “repeatedly assaulted” a victim, the San Jose Police Department wrote. The victim was treated for injuries at a hospital and survived.
