Bio-inspired decision making in robot swarms under biases

|
By Raina Zakir, Timoteo Carletti, Marco Dorigo, Andreagiovanni Reina
| Nature Verified
Abstract To operate autonomously, minimal robot swarms must make timely and reliable collective decisions despite noisy individual sensing and severe constraints on communication, computation, and memory. Achieving this capability could expand their use in applications such as healthcare, disaster response, and environmental monitoring.

Speed-accuracy trade-offs in best-of-$n$ collective decision making through heterogeneous mean-field modeling

|
By Andreagiovanni Reina, Universität Konstanz, Thierry Njougouo, Elio Tuci
| Physical Review B
To succeed in their objectives, groups of individuals must be able to make quick and accurate collective decisions on the best option among a set of alternatives with different qualities. Group-living animals aim to do that all the time. Plants and fungi are thought to do so too. Swarms of autonomous robots can also be programed to make best-of-n decisions for solving tasks collaboratively.

Blockchain technology for mobile multi-robot systems - Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering

|
By Marco Dorigo, Alexandre Pacheco, Andreagiovanni Reina
| Nature Verified
Abstract Blockchain technology generates and maintains an immutable digital ledger that records transactions between agents interacting in a peer-to-peer network. Initially developed for financial transactions between human agents, the technology could also be used across a broader spectrum of applications, providing transparency, security and trust without the need for a central authority. In this Perspective, we discuss how blockchain technology can enhance mobile multi-robot systems.
