What does it mean to be a journalist?
Overworked, underpaid, lots of frustrating days and hair-pullingly stressful deadlines. But total fulfillment.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Know what I'm likely to cover. Be familiar with what I do! Plainly say what the pitch is, why it's of interest, etc.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
MacBookPro Laptop, Safari, Google, and OpenOffice. Keep it simple.
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook addict. I still love seeing what everyone's up to and hearing from old friends..
Why did you become a journalist?
It's the perfect combination of all my interests: the arts, writing, interviewing fascinating people. Being published every week is exciting,
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked on my college newspaper. Surprise: arts journalism!
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Whatever I'm working on now. The next one always seems like the best one.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Try writing all different kinds of stories in all different kinds of ways so you can discover what you like and what your style is.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime via email. If it's a time-based event like a performance, the earlier the better, but at least 3 weeks in advance is best.
