What was your first job as a journalist?
high school newspaper
Have you ever used a typewriter?
yes-I grew up using a manual typewriter and then an Olivetti electric typewriter. I took it everywhere with me in college and medical school.
How is social media changing news?
The lack of vetting in social media is a huge problem for the news. "Fake news" is a threat to all journalism.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
He is a photojournalist, but that would be Peter Parker.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Taking an active interest in the world around you and becoming instrumental in shaping it with facts.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use Microsoft Word mostly on an Apple Computer.

Who do you wish followed you?
Everyone who is intellectually curious.
Why did you become a journalist?
I like asking questions, learning new things, and writing about them. I consider myself an educator as well.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I wrote for my high school newspaper.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Usually my latest story is the one I'm most proud of! I just completed a story on COVID-19 and how it is affecting physicians and patients.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Read and write...a lot. Use the least number of words needed for most sentences to make your point. Write about what interests you.
