In years past I would write about time slipping through my fingers like sand, and how the hopeful young journalists of tomorrow have rekindled a wind-spurned flame for an industry that often has you lapping up cynicism like water on a hot summer’s day. Beaverton residents will see higher fees as city faces cash crunch it says it can’t easily fix

Beaverton has reached a fiscal impasse, city leaders said Tuesday, and now its residents will have to pay up. The City Council approved two new fees to help stanch years of budget bleeds and reductions to staff Tuesday night. People living in city limits will see new surcharges on their monthly utility bills in August, as well as price increases for water and sewer services.

If you’ve been down Cornell Road lately, you might have seen the massive construction project peeking out from the trees near U.S. 26. The building, formerly the Beaverton DoubleTree Hotel, is undergoing major renovations to be reborn as low-barrier housing. Washington County aims to open that resource later this year, but an official opening date hasn’t been set. The program will offer 75 to 85 transitional housing units to help people struggling with homelessness.
