Multi-talented Cotton on quest for state basketball tourney

FAULKTON – It has already been a memorable season for Layne Cotton, and now he wants to make it extraordinary. The Faulkton senior standout recently became a member of the 1,000-point club and is currently on a mission to lead the Trojans to their first ever state boys’ basketball tournament. Cotton’s milestone points came amidst a 22-point performance in a 57-40 road loss at Wolsey-Wessington on Dec. 19. He became the fifth boys’ player in program history to accomplish the feat.

Top-rated Turnquist on mission for national championship

The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) currently has Northern State University graduate student Wyatt Turnquist ranked as the top Division II men’s wrestler in the country at 149 pounds and, so far this season, he’s proven why that’s the case. Turnquist won the Midwest Classic’s 149-pound division following consecutive major decision wins.

Foltz looking to cap off senior season on high note

ROSHOLT – When Tri-State senior runner Kaleb Foltz steps up to the starting line at 1 p.m. today for the Class A boys’ race at the State Cross Country Meet at Yankton Trail Park he will be looking to cap off a stellar senior season. “Can’t wait. Going to put it all out there,” Foltz said of competing in the final cross country race of his high school career.
