SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Scottsdale city leaders are set to decide the fate of one of Old Town’s longest-running bars after months of debate over parking requirements. Scottsdale City Council is scheduled Monday night to reconsider whether Old Town Tavern can fully operate at its new location about 100 feet from its original site. Old Town Tavern has operated in Old Town Scottsdale for more than 40 years and had been grandfathered into a number of city policies.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — When a trash fire spread to a Maryvale home Saturday morning and trapped five people inside, Phoenix firefighters credited their training for getting everyone out alive. All five suffered burns and are expected to survive. How the fire started Investigators said a man was burning trash when flames caught an awning just after 11 a.m. at a home on Holly Street, near McDowell Road and 43rd Avenue. The fire then spread to and consumed the home.

Unlikely heroes rush to battle Kay Fire near Cave Creek

CAVE CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) — Firefighters continued battling the Kay Fire burning in the Desert Hills area northeast of Cave Creek, attacking the flames from the ground and the air. The wildfire was estimated at 40 acres and is one of several burning across Arizona. Fire officials said crews were on scene within minutes of the fire sparking Monday. Among the first to respond: volunteers with the Tonto Hills Volunteer Fire Department—people whose day jobs don’t typically include fighting wildfires.
