Opinion: We must flip the 48th District, and Marni von Wilpert can do it
Marni von Wilpert. (Photo courtesy of her campaign) I know what it takes to lead and win tough elections. I spent forty years in elected office serving California through some of the most tumultuous times in our country’s history. I thought I saw it all, but it pales in comparison to the recklessness of Donald Trump’s second presidency and a Republican-led Congress bowing down to his every whim. Donald Trump has dragged us into another “forever war” without a vote in Congress.
Boxer: California leads the way toward parity
In these tough times, as we grapple with saving America itself, it is important to note progress and victories. This year, for the first time, women make up a majority in California’s state Senate. Across both legislative chambers, 58 women — a record high — are serving. This is just two seats away from gender parity, which would make California the largest global economy — and one of only four U.S. states — to have a legislature that is 50% women.

Former Sen. Barbara Boxer endorses Adam Schiff in Senate race
(Inside California Politics) - Former Sen. Barbara Boxer endorsed Rep. Adam Schiff in the race for her former colleague Dianne Feinstein's Senate seat on Thursday. Boxer had previously said she would stay neutral on the race but now says recent events in the race have caused her to change her mind. "There's been more than one attack by Katie Porter on Adam Schiff," Boxer said. "The first one was during the debate, she accused him of taking dirty money. Adam is playing by the rules of the game.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein will not run again following more than 30 years in office
” Feinstein rose to national prominence in 1978 when she was the president of the Board of Supervisors in San Francisco and found the body of Harvey Milk.White also killed San Francisco Mayor George Moscone.“I would be proud to carry on just a portion of their legacy,” Schiff said of Feinstein and another longtime Jewish senator from California who retired in 2017, Barbara Boxer.“Each of us was sent here to solve problems,” Feinstein said in her statement, which referenced work on an assault...
Dianne Feinstein's extremely awkward, very uncomfortable exit from the political stage
“She’s still the state’s senior senator,” said one longtime Democratic strategist in California.“It seems like all of them are handling it professionally, and honoring Dianne,” said Bob Mulholland, a veteran Democratic strategist and former Democratic National Committee member.Even if the rush to fill a chair that Feinstein still occupies is, collectively, “pretty tasteless,” as one Democratic strategist described it, it may be hard to fault politically.“I think she’s been a great senator,...
Stakes are high in the Byzantine world of redistricting - Capitol Weekly
News A portion of the California map under the magnifying glass. (Photo: Sharaf Maksumov, via Shutterstock) by CHUCK McFADDEN posted 11.22.2021 Twitter Facebook Email For most Californians, redistricting is a dark and mysterious process that has little to do with their daily lives. For politicians, it could be a matter of career life or death.
Unpopular dining opinions: Buffets, bloody marys and other polarizing offerings
Lori is an avid cook whose accrual of condiments and spices is rivaled only by her cookbook collection. Her passion for the culinary industry was birthed while balancing A&W root beer mugs as a teenage carhop, fed by insatiable curiosity and fueled by the people whose stories entwine with each and every dish.

Barbara Boxer: What Joe Biden taught me when we served in the Senate
Barbara Boxer, a Democrat, is a former US Senator from California and a former US Representative of California's 6th District. The views expressed in this commentary are her own. View more opinion on CNN. (CNN)As the United States faces multiple crises, Americans need a specific kind of leader -- a forward-looking, empathetic one. After working with Joe Biden in Congress for several decades, I have no doubt that he not only meets, but exemplifies, these character traits.
Former Sen. Barbara Boxer: I regret voting for the creation of the Department of Homeland Security
Here are the three words that no elected official, serving or retired, wants to say: “I was wrong.” Throughout my career, I was known for taking some very lonely votes. But I made a mistake in 2002 when I voted to create the Department of Homeland Security, which had been recommended by a number of members of Congress in the wake of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 the year before. Looking back in the congressional record, I could hear the doubts in my voice.

Letters to the Editor: Raise cost of ammunition to prevent gun tragedies
Regarding “Dems give Trump chance to look sensible on guns” (Willie Brown, Aug. 25) espousing a ban on assault weapons: That train has left the station. Assault weapons are ubiquitous. Besides, assault weapons don’t kill people, bullets kill people. The Second Amendment grants the right to keep and bear arms, arguably not to buy and possess unlimited ammunition.
Barbara Boxer: AB5 is not the answer for all workers
The California Legislature is currently evaluating a bill, AB5, that would reclassify independent contractors as employees in a wide range of industries. For some industries, this reclassification makes a lot of sense. In others, it will lead to anxiety and loss of income for thousands of workers.

It’s time to provide Californians with a reliable, resilient water supply
Climate change is here, and we must act now. This past summer, Californians experienced catastrophic wildfires that wiped out entire towns, took lives and brought pain and suffering to both the north and south of our state. If we do not respond to the climate change warnings before us, particularly drought, we will fail our children and our grandchildren who call California home. This is not just an environmental issue, it’s a social justice issue.

Denial, Denial, and a Confession
Can You Believe? Can you believe Trump echoing the Saudis’ denials and comparing the murderous Crown Prince to Kavanaugh? Can you believe Trump is still in full denial about climate change? This week he said there were “scientists on both sides of the issue” – just like there were “good people on both sides” at the deadly KKK march in Charlottesville.

Forget Trump Steaks, It’s All About Trump Asbestos
Can You Believe? Can you believe there is a Russian asbestos company that features a seal of approval with Donald Trump’s photo? Of course, this comes on the heels of the Trump administration lifting restrictions on the use of asbestos, a known carcinogen. What’s next? Trump-approved DDT and a seal of approval for lead-based paints for baby cribs? Can you believe that Rep. Devin Nunes actually outlined a plan for impeaching Rod Rosenstein while attending a fundraiser for Cathy McMorris Rodgers?
Marcia Greenberger and Dr. Hiral Tipirneni
Barbara and Nicole sit down and go over Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez' taking her place as the Democratic giant slayer, Democrats needing to win with unity and authenticity, and the recent Supreme Court rulings. Then, Senator Boxer speaks with Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts on Trump's impending Supreme Court Justice nominee and the potential of reversing Roe v Wade and how to effectively fight back.
Chinese Jobs, Bald-Faced Lies, and a Big Opportunity in PA
Can You Believe? Can you believe Trump wanting to lift sanctions against a Chinese company that illegally sold technology to Iran & North Korea? He says he wants to save 75,000 jobs – in CHINA! Can you believe House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s inadvertent truth-telling when he said allowing a vote on DACA (which a majority of House members favor) would cost the GOP its majority? What does he think not allowing a vote will do for them?
Dreams and Nightmares
Can You Believe? Can you believe how Trump spent the Passover-Easter weekend (a time when past presidents sent messages of peace and goodwill to all) railing against the Dreamers? Can you believe how little he actually knows about DACA, the program he so cruelly ended? Can you believe that Trump invited Putin to the White House after the Russian tyrant hacked Americans’ computers, attacked our electoral process, and poisoned residents of the U.K.?
GOP Counter-offensive Threatens Russia Probe - PAC For A Change
Can You Believe? Can you believe Trump could talk about “unity” for over an hour (it seemed like three) without offering a single compromise or olive branch on any issue? Like Putin or any other autocrat, Trump’s idea of unity is my way or the highway. Can you believe Trump would mention Dreamers and the MS-13 gang in the same breath? Of course you can.
Barbara Boxer: Will 2018 be the Year of the Woman, this time for real?
For 10 years starting in 2007 I was either chairman or vice chairman of the United States Senate Ethics Committee, the only committee of the Senate equally divided between Democrats and Republicans. I can tell you without hesitation, that it is against the rules to ask your staff to carry your clean clothes out of the cleaner, let alone ask them to carry your child! Yet a congressman from Arizona quit for doing just that.

Victory! - PAC For A Change
Can You Believe? Can you believe Trump’s saying “Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for”? Gillespie campaigned on xenophobia, intolerance, economic nationalism, and Confederate statues. Any closer embrace and they would have been dancing cheek to cheek. Can you believe Trump’s claim that the latest horrific mass shooting was not “a guns situation”?

Can You Believe? Can you believe Trump bragging about his “warm rapport” with the murderous Philippine tyrant Rodrigo Duterte? Can you believe John Kelly stating that “the lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War,” when the only compromise being considered at the time would have enshrined slavery in the Constitution? Compromising on slavery is like compromising on breathing – you can’t. Can you believe Trump’s response to the terrorist attack in New York?

Can You Believe? Can you believe Trump’s endless childish attacks on Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, whose help he desperately needs to implement his so-called foreign policy and pass his so-called tax reform? It’s further proof that Trump has no interest in or understanding of the legislative process. Huntington Beach Poseidon desalination plant needed
Climate change is all around us. Extreme weather conditions including recent Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria demonstrate the intensity and impact of climate change on our environment. We’ve seen California and other parts of the West Coast fight large, uncontrollable wildfires and our neighbors in Mexico hit with violent and destructive earthquakes. Earthquakes of that magnitude would be detrimental to our State’s aqueducts and would leave Southern California without water.
