Narrowing Endangered Species Act will likely drive right whales to extinction, experts warn
Environmental advocates say a Trump administration proposal to narrow the scope of the Endangered Species Act could drive the world's remaining North Atlantic right whales to extinction, with the animals likely reaching the point of no return within a decade. "It doesn't take much to push a species like this right over the brink," said Mark Baumgartner, a marine ecologist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
State will not allow disposal of radioactive water in Cape Cod Bay
The company cleaning up the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth will not be allowed to discharge radioactive wastewater into Cape Cod Bay. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection issued the final decision Tuesday after a two year review. “The news from MassDEP is good for Cape Cod, Cape Cod Bay, and Southeastern Massachusetts,” said Andrew Gottlieb, executive director of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, one of the groups that opposed the dumping.
