Association between polygenic liability to depression and lifetime depression in at-risk adolescents
Abstract Internalising symptoms including depression, anxiety and somatic symptoms in adolescence are common. They can be transient, but they can also persist and progress to major depressive disorder (MDD) Polygenic risk scores for major depression (MD-PGS) may help identify which symptomatic adolescents are at greatest risk of later disorder.

Are Psychiatric Nosologies Limiting the Success of Clinical Prediction Models?
Are Psychiatric Nosologies Limiting the Success of Clinical Prediction Models? In many instances across psychiatric research, binary or multiclass supervised machine learning (ML) or statistical classifiers are used to predict diagnostic outcomes. To train and test supervised classifiers, ground-truth labels identifying the true diagnostic outcomes for each individual are required.
An open label pilot trial of low‐dose lithium for young people at ultra‐high risk for psychosis
1 INTRODUCTION Individuals meeting the ultra-high risk (UHR) criteria are at high risk of developing a psychotic disorder. This group is therefore a prime target for indicated prevention to prevent a first episode of psychosis as well as for treatment of existing symptoms and disability (McGorry et al., 2018; Yung et al., 2003).
A Dynamical Systems View of Psychiatric Disorders—Theory : A Review
Importance Psychiatric disorders may come and go with symptoms changing over a lifetime. This suggests the need for a paradigm shift in diagnosis and treatment. Here we present a fresh look inspired by dynamical systems theory. This theory is used widely to explain tipping points, cycles, and chaos in complex systems ranging from the climate to ecosystems.

Can disorders of subjective time inform the differential diagnosis of psychiatric disorders? A transdiagnostic taxonomy of time.
Time is a core aspect of psychopathology with potential for clinical use and early intervention. Temporal experience, perception, judgement and processing are distorted in various psychiatric disorders such as mood (depression and mania), anxiety, autistic, impulse-control, dissociative and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders. Can these disorders of time be used as early diagnostic or predictive markers?

Integrating clinical staging and phenomenological psychopathology to add depth, nuance, and utility to clinical phenotyping: a heuristic challenge
Summary Psychiatry has witnessed a new wave of approaches to clinical phenotyping and the study of psychopathology, including the US National Institute of Mental Health's Research Domain Criteria, clinical staging, network approaches, the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology, the general psychopathology factor, and a revival of interest in phenomenological psychopathology. The question naturally emerges about what the relationship between these new approaches is.

Tracking our grey costs per trade: Hidden risks and overlooked opportunities
Surely after years of practice and refinement we all have a crystal-clear view of our costs per trade – Don’t we? Haven’t MIFID, the global financial crisis and the shift to passive all forced us to learn up over the last 12 years and become experts in tracking our unit costs? Apparently not. Our recent “Grey Costs per Trade” report, which launches today, has shown that more than half of us in the industry are tracking less than 30% of our total costs per trade each day. How can that be?

Can antipsychotic dose reduction lead to better functional recovery in first‐episode psychosis? A randomized controlled‐trial of antipsychotic dose reduction. The reduce trial: Study protocol - Weller - - Early Intervention in Psychiatry - Wiley Online Li
Antipsychotic medication has been the mainstay of treatment for psychotic illnesses for over 60 years. This has been associated with improvements in positive psychotic symptoms and a reduction in relapse rates. However, there has been little improvement in functional outcomes for people with psychosis. At the same time there is increasing evidence that medications contribute to life shortening metabolic and cardiovascular illnesses.

Staged treatment and acceptability guidelines in early psychosis study (STAGES): A randomized placebo controlled trial of intensive psychosocial treatment plus or minus antipsychotic medication for first‐episode psychosis with low‐risk of self‐harm or agg
It is now necessary to investigate whether recovery in psychosis is possible without the use of antipsychotic medication.
The construct validity of the Inventory of Psychotic‐Like Anomalous Self‐Experiences (IPASE) as a measure of minimal self‐disturbance: Preliminary data - Nelson - - Early Intervention in Psychiatry - Wiley Online Library
The Inventory of Psychotic‐Like Anomalous Self‐Experiences (IPASE) is a self‐report measure of minimal self‐disturbance. The aim of the current report was to assess the construct validity of the scale by examining its convergent validity with the gold‐standard measure of minimal self‐disturbance, the Examination of Anomalous Self‐Experience (EASE), and its discriminant validity.

The approved Italian version of the comprehensive assessment of at‐risk mental states (CAARMS‐ITA): Field test and psychometric features
The Comprehensive Assessment of At‐Risk Mental States (CAARMS) was specifically developed to assess and detect young people at ultra‐high risk (UHR) of developing psychosis. The current study was undertaken to test the reliability and validity of the authorized Italian version of the CAARMS (CAARMS‐ITA) in a help‐seeking population.
Staged Treatment in Early Psychosis: A sequential multiple assignment randomised trial of interventions for ultra high risk of psychosis patients
Previous research indicates that preventive intervention is likely to benefit patients “at risk” of psychosis, in terms of functional improvement, symptom reduction and delay or prevention of onset of threshold psychotic disorder.

Youth mental health services in Italy: An achievable dream?
“Liberiamo il futuro” (LIF) project was designed to assess psychological problems of adolescents and young adults and to identify individuals at high‐risk for developing a psychosis through a collaboration between a University team, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Adult Mental Health Services. This paper presents the baseline demographic and clinical characteristics of the cohort, particularly the nature and severity of psychopathology.
Broad clinical high‐risk mental state (CHARMS): Methodology of a cohort study validating criteria for pluripotent risk
The development of the ultra‐high risk (UHR) criteria for psychosis created a new paradigm for the prevention research in psychiatry. Since (1) prevention research faces the challenge of achieving adequate statistical power when focusing on single low‐incidence syndromes and (2) early clinical phenotypes are overlapping and non‐specific, this study broadens the UHR state beyond psychosis as an outcome.
Perceptual abnormalities in an ultra‐high risk for psychosis population relationship to trauma and co‐morbid disorder
The aims of this study were 3‐fold. We wished to investigate whether at baseline entry to an ultra‐high risk (UHR) clinic whether: (1) perceptual abnormalities are more prevalent in those young people with co‐morbid psychiatric diagnoses, (2) perceptual abnormalities are more prevalent in those young people with histories of childhood adversity (childhood trauma, bullying) and (3) perceptual abnormality type is associated with co‐morbid psychiatric diagnoses or histories of childhood adversity.

Optimism Increases On China | Emerging Market Views
From insurers to investment managers, investors are increasingly optimistic about China, mainly driven by more settled market conditions, diminished concerns about capital controls, regulatory clarity and a stabilized renminbi (RMB). In our survey of 900 global investors, as many as 60 per cent said China is one of their top three investment priorities, up from 49 percent a year ago. Meanwhile, 69 percent of investors plan to increase their exposures over the next 12 months.
Borderline personality pathology in young people at ultra high risk of developing a psychotic disorder
The association between borderline personality disorder and the ultra high risk (UHR) for psychosis state is unclear. The following study aimed to investigate the type of attenuated psychotic symptoms and prevalence of borderline personality pathology in a sample of UHR young people. Additionally, the study aimed to explore whether borderline personality pathology influenced the transition rate to psychosis. Medical records from Orygen Youth Health between 2007 and 2009 were examined.
Moving From Static to Dynamic Models of the Onset of Mental Disorder
Review May 2017 JAMA Psychiatry. 2017;74(5):528-534. doi:10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2017.0001 Abstract Importance In recent years, there has been increased focus on subthreshold stages of mental disorders, with attempts to model and predict which individuals will progress to full-threshold disorder. Given this research attention and the clinical significance of the issue, this article analyzes the assumptions of the theoretical models in the field.
High levels of anomalous self-experience are associated with longer duration of untreated psychosis

Long-term Follow-up of a Group at Ultra High Risk (“Prodromal”) for Psychosis: The PACE 400 Study
Importance The ultra high-risk (UHR) criteria were introduced to prospectively identify patients at high risk of psychotic disorder. Although the short-term outcome of UHR patients has been well researched, the long-term outcome is not known. Objective To assess the rate and baseline predictors of transition to psychotic disorder in UHR patients up to 15 years after study entry. Design Follow-up study of a cohort of UHR patients recruited to participate in research studies between 1993 and 2006.
