Self-reported positive health outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic among adolescents born preterm in the ECHO cohort
Abstract To investigate positive health perceptions during the COVID-19 pandemic of adolescents born preterm (<37 weeks’ gestation). The study population included 4093 mother–child dyads from 38 pediatric cohort sites. The study used generalized estimating equations to evaluate positive health among adolescents born preterm versus term while controlling for age and date of questionnaire completion, child sex, maternal education, and site.
Association between NNNS-II profiles and pharmacological treatment in infants with prenatal opioid exposure
Abstract Examine whether neonatal neurobehavioral profiles are related to need for pharmacological treatment among infants with prenatal opioid exposure. Prospective cohort study of 217 infants with need for treatment determined using the Finnegan Neonatal Abstinence Tool (FNAST), Neonatal Withdrawal Inventory (NWI), or Eat Sleep Console (ESC). Neurobehavior was assessed with the NeoNatal Neurobehavioral Scale II (NNNS-II).
Toward a more holistic approach to the study of exposures and child outcomes
It is well known that events that occur in early development can result in long-term adverse health outcomes [1]. Epidemiologic research and genome-wide association studies indicate that environmental factors may account for, in some cases, 85% or more of chronic disease risk [2–5]. While much of this is attributed to cigarette smoking; alcohol; excess caloric, sugar or fat consumption; and psychosocial exposures, a considerable amount of disease burden is currently of unknown origin.
