Environmental DNA Reveals Major Shifts in Fish and Amphibian Diversity and Distribution in Alpine Lentic Ecosystems of Southwest China, Supporting Improved Conservation and Management
1 Introduction Amphibian population declines have emerged as a global concern in recent decades (Luedtke et al. 2023; Pottier et al. 2025). Non-native fish introduction is considered one of the key anthropogenic threats to aquatic ecosystems and native species (Olden and LeRoy 2005; van Blerk et al. 2023), which has been widely recognised as a major driver of amphibian declines worldwide (Gillespie 2001; Reshetnikov and Ficetola 2011; Nunes et al. 2019).

Contrasting elevational patterns in microbial necromass carbon content and contribution across soil depths of a subtropical alpine ecosystem - Ecological Processes
Elevational patterns of MNC content We observed a consistent linear increase in MNC with elevation across both soil layers, which contrasts with the quadratic patterns reported in other alpine forests (Du et al. 2025; Zhang et al. 2025) and diverges from our initial hypothesis. This linear trend aligns with the topsoil findings of Mou et al. (2021) while extending it to the subsoil.

Thermal Variability Modulates Altitudinal Differences in Metabolic Plasticity of the Asiatic Toad
1 Introduction The swift rate of alteration in Earth's climate is unprecedented and carries significant consequences for biodiversity. In the context of climate change, the survival of a species or population hinges on its ability to alleviate thermal stress, whether via migration, genetic adaptation, or acclimation (Huey et al. 2012).

Evolutionary and environmental determinants of heat tolerance and acclimation capacity in herpetofauna
INTRODUCTION Exploring species’ vulnerability to a warming climate and the underlying mechanisms is crucial for modern ecology and conservation biology (Burton et al., 2022; Mi et al., 2022). Environmental variables, such as cloud cover, water availability, and shade (Kearney et al., 2013), can mitigate the effects of heat waves on species (Ma et al., 2021).
Evolutionary legacy of the “living fossil” genus Parrotia (Hamamelidaceae): genomic insights into species divergence and polygenic adaptation
Introduction Tertiary paleotropical flora was once distributed throughout high latitudes in large parts of Eurasia and North America during much of the Tertiary period (Wolfe, 1975). However, increasing cooling and aridity from the mid-Miocene onwards caused this “boreotropical flora” to die out across many of the land areas or to retract to refugia having an equable climate (Donoghue & Smith, 2004).

Phylosymbiosis and Parallel Geographical Patterns in the Gut Microbiota of Desert-Dwelling Amphibians and Reptiles
1 Introduction The gut microbiota play crucial roles in various aspects of host physiology, including behavior, health, immunity, nutrition, and metabolism (Xiong 2022; Zhang, Zhang, and Xu 2023). Recent studies suggest their involvement in animal environmental adaptation, ecological differentiation, and speciation (Guo et al. 2021; Liu et al. 2024; Zhu et al. 2024). Campylotropis xinfeniae (Fabaceae, Papilionoideae), a new species from Yunnan, China, based on morphological and molecular evidence
1 INTRODUCTION Campylotropis Bunge (1835, p. 6) is a genus of the subtribe Lespedezinae in the tribe Desmodieae (Benth.) Hutch, which is considered one of the most advanced tribes within the largest subfamily Papilionoideae of the family Fabaceae (LWPG, 2017; Ohashi et al., 1981). Desmodieae has traditionally been divided into the subtribe Bryinae, the subtribe Desmodiinae, and the subtribe Lespedezinae (Ohashi et al., 1981).

Effects of microhabitat features on the intraspecific variability of the distribution and functional traits in a highest elevational distributed lizard
1 INTRODUCTION Understanding species spatial distribution patterns and the related environmental determinants is one of the main concerns in modern ecology (Khatiwada et al., 2019; May et al., 2018). The spatial distribution patterns refer to the differences of organisms composition between habitats, which can be occurred at both interspecific and intraspecific levels.

Phylogenomics and plastome evolution of Indigofera (Fabaceae)
1 Introduction Fabaceae is considered the third largest family of angiosperms, which is traditionally divided into three subfamilies including Caesalpinioideae, Mimosoideae, and Papilionoideae (Lewis et al., 2005; LPWG, 2013). However, six subfamilies (i.e., Caesalpinioideae, Cercidoideae, Detarioideae, Dialioideae, Duparquetioideae, and Papilionoideae) were proposed based on a phylogenetic framework reconstructed from the chloroplast matK gene (LPWG, 2017). Indigofera L.

Compared with the control, F and FTCs treatments significantly increased SOD activity of the first three root orders by 33.33% and 20%, respectively. SOD activity of first-order roots was significantly higher than that of the first three root orders under FTCs and control treatments.

Editorial: Disturbance, resilience, and restoration of wetlands
Wetlands, including peatlands, marshes, swamps, and coastal wetlands, contain more than 30% of terrestrial soil carbon on only 8% of the Earth's land surface (Mitsch and Gosselink, 2007). Due to their specific biodiversity and ecosystem function, and linking terrestrial and aquatic systems, wetlands are key players in the most important ecosystem services, especially water regulation, nutrient retention, and carbon cycling.
Invasive alien plants are phylogenetically distinct from other alien species across spatial and taxonomic scales in China
1 Introduction Biological invasions are considered one of the most important global problems experienced by ecosystems (Simberloff et al., 2013). Phylogenetic relatedness of the alien species to the existing community members is hypothesized to facilitate [(pre-adaptation hypothesis; (Ricciardi and Mottiar, 2006)] or hinder [(Darwin’s naturalization hypothesis; (Daehler, 2001)] successful establishment of alien species in the community.

CheY1 and CheY2 of Azorhizobium caulinodans ORS571 regulate chemotaxis and competitive colonization with the host plant
Plant Microbiology Wei Liu, Xue Bai, Yan Li, Jun Min, Yachao Kong, Xiaoke Hu DOI: 10.1128/AEM.00599-20 ABSTRACT The genome of Azorhizobium caulinodans ORS571 encodes two chemotaxis response regulators—CheY1 and CheY2. cheY1 is located in chemotaxis cluster (cheAWY1BR), while cheY2 is located 37 kb upstream of the cheAWY1BR cluster. To determine the contributions of CheY1 and CheY2, we compared the wild-type (WT) and mutants in the free-living state and in symbiosis with the host Sesbania rostrata.
Identification of a cheZ-like gene in Azorhizobium caulinodans, a key gene in the control of chemotaxis and colonization of the host plant
Chemotaxis can provide bacteria with competitive advantages for survival in complex environments. The CheZ chemotaxis protein is a phosphatase, affecting the flagellar motor in Escherichia coli, by dephosphorylating the response regulator CheY-P protein responsible for clockwise rotation. A cheZ gene has been found in Azorhizobium caulinodans ORS571, in contrast to other rhizobial species studied so far.
Responses of nutrient capture and fine root morphology of subalpine coniferous tree Picea asperata to nutrient heterogeneity and competition
In the control treatment (SNF treatment) of sub-experiment I, there was no difference in the fine root morphology between the two compartments of the container (S1 Table). Thus, we ignored the influence of the experimental pot and systematic error when evaluating the effects of competition or soil nutrient heterogeneity on the root morphology. In addition, the responses of roots were only due to the experimental treatments.
A cheZ-Like Gene in Azorhizobium caulinodans Is a Key Gene in the Control of Chemotaxis and Colonization of the Host Plant
