Lyons runner Paul Roberts becomes first to win four straight Colorado state cross country titles
Paul Roberts from Lyons High School became the first runner to win four consecutive boys Colorado individual state cross country championships. Robert won the 2A title in a course-record time of 15:33.7 at the Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. While 2A is the smallest classification, his time has been among the fastest or second fastest overall each year. The Lyons boys team also won its fourth consecutive state team title.

Valor Christian controls Cherokee Trail 33-14
The Valor Christian Eagles used a stout defensive performance in the first half, and a 17 point offensive outburst in the second half, to cruise past Cherokee Trail 33-14 on Thursday night. The Eagles jumped out to quick start in the first half thanks to two touchdown passes, both coming from quarterback Dylan McCaffrey to wide receiver Ben Waters. Valor's defense held the Cougars scoreless in the first half, recovering two fumbles and allowing minimal yardage on the ground.

Garrett Lang provides inspiration for Mullen football
He's the youngest assistant coach on Mullen High School's football team, but also their most popular coach. "You ready from Friday, Coach G?!" yells another. "Coach G", or Garrett Lang as he is known by most, answers each of these greetings with a smile and fist-bump. Garrett has cerebral palsy, and has been an assistant coach at Mullen for a little over one year.
DeMarcus Ware's powerful pre-game speech at Englewood
The Englewood High School football team went into Friday night looking for their first win of 2015, and the Pirates needed a little extra motivation before their homecoming game against Elizabeth High School. That's when one of the NFL's best players entered their locker room. Denver Broncos outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware surprised the team and delivered a powerful pre-game speech to the Pirates that helped spur the team to a 32-21 victory, their first of the year.
Rangeview beats Grand Junction 26-7 for first win
A three-touchdown first half helped propel Rangeview High School to their first football victory of 2015, beating the Grand Junction Tigers 26-7 at Aurora Public School Stadium on Saturday. Two first half rushing touchdowns from AJ Thomas gave the Raiders the lead, with a big-play touchdown from quarterback Jaelin Odegard to wide receiver Elijah Reed giving Rangeview even more breathing room heading into the second half. Arapahoe shocks No. 3 Grandview 17-14
One week after stunning Doherty, the Arapahoe High School football team shocked another one of Colorado's best programs, beating No. 3 ranked Grandview 17-14. The Warriors took the lead in the third quarter, thanks to a Pete Mitchell touchdown pass to Connor Williams, with Williams out-running the defense for the 60 yard score. After Grandview scored to tie it at 14, Nate Rapue knocked home a FG to give the Warriors the lead and eventual win.
Pine Creek cruises past Dakota Ridge 44-7
The top-ranked team in Colorado's 4A football division wasted no time taking control in their only scheduled trip to the Denver Metro area on Thursday. The Pine Creek Eagles traveled to Jefferson County Stadium on Thursday night and beat No. 3 ranked Dakota Ridge 44-7 to cement their status as one of the state's top teams.

Cherry Creek edges Pomona in defensive battle
One touchdown won't win you many games in Colorado's 5A division, but it was just enough as the Cherry Creek Bruins defeated the Pomona Panthers 7-6 on Friday night. The game showcased two of the top defense in the state, with Creek holding their third straight opponent to less than seven points. After each team went scoreless in the first half, Panthers running back Max Borghi scored on a bubble screen from 55 yards out early in the second half.
Broomfield beats Heritage with extra time goal
It may have taken slightly longer than they would have liked, but the Broomfield boys soccer team finally got the goal they were searching for all night long Thanks to a Justin Hamm header off a Porter Milner flip-throw, the Broomfield Eagles stayed undefeated by beating Heritage 1-0 in the 85th minute. D'Evelyn dominates in 7-2 win over Dakota Ridge
The D'Evelyn High School boys soccer team used three goals in the first half, and four in the second half, to dominate play in their 7-2 win over Dakota Ridge on Wednesday night. Junior Wesley Tedstrom and sophomore Cooper Dale each had two goals for the Jaguars as D'Evelyn moved to 2-1-1 in the 2015 regular season. Big second half lifts Longmont over Pueblo East
After coming up short against Pueblo East last season, the Longmont Trojans football team used a 24 point third quarter to make sure that didn't happen again in 2015. Behind four touchdowns from senior Conlon Berger, the Trojans beat the defending 3A state champs 48-27 to start their season 1-0. It's the first time in four seasons the Trojans have started their season with a win. Watch the video above for extended highlights from Friday's big game.
Rapids' Greenspan working in Denver with the U.S. Navy
"Thank you for your service. We really appreciate it." It's the phrase you'll hear most from Rapids rookie Joe Greenspan as he speaks with hospitalized veterans at the VA Eastern Colorado Health System in Denver. The first-year Colorado defender is the first player in Major League Soccer history to be drafted out of the Naval Academy, and he knows how much those words can mean.
Report: Troy Tulowitzki traded to Blue Jays
KUSA - Troy Tulowitzki is no longer a member of the Colorado Rockies. According to a report from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Rockies have dealt Tulowitzki and relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for shortstop Jose Reyes and additional minor league players. During their game with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday evening, the Rockies pulled Tulowitzki in the ninth inning after they knew he was being sent to Toronto.
Report: Nuggets trade Ty Lawson to Houston
The days of Ty Lawson in a Denver Nuggets' uniform are now over. Just days after the Nuggets' starting point guard was arrested for his second DUI of the year, Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Denver has dealt Lawson and a 2017 second-round pick to the Houston Rockets. In return, the Nuggets will receive a 2016 lottery protected first-round pick, along with Rockets guard Pablo Prigioni, Nick Johnson, forward Joey Dorsey, and Kostas Papanikolaou.

Post-Crescent Media All-Area Boy’s Track and Field Team
Colton Hansen, Sr., Hilbert/Stockbridge: Finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of :50.03 and eighth in the triple jump with a jump of 41 feet, 23/ inches at the WIAA Division 3 state meet. Won the 400 and the triple jump at the Olympian Conference meet. Sam Hinz, Sr., Freedom: Won the 800 with a time of 1:54.50 and finished second in the 1,600 in 4:17.93 at the WIAA Division 2 state meet. Won the 800 at the Little Chute sectional with a time of 1:54.02.
Freedom’s Collin Hofacker top track athlete
The Post-Crescent Media boys’ track and field athlete of the year is Freedom’s Collin Hofacker, shown at the History Museum at the Castle in Appleton. It was quite the track and field season for University of Iowa recruit Collin Hofacker. The Freedom High School standout won WIAA Division 2 state titles in the 200- and 400-meter dashes with times of :22.05 and :47.76, respectively. In winning the 400, Hofacker broke the state record of :47.86 set in 2014 by Erick Huertas of Grafton.
Nuggets' Mudiay sets lofty goals ahead of rookie season
DENVER - Just days after being drafted with the seventh overall pick, Denver Nuggets rookies guard Emmanuel Mudiay is already thinking long term. In an interview with 9NEWS Sports, Mudiay says he is setting his goals high, including the desire to finish his career as one of the best NBA players to ever play the game. Denver Pioneers return with National Championship trophy
The trophy has arrived in Denver. A little more than eight hours after the Denver Pioneers men's lacrosse team won the first national championship in school history, the team was back on Colorado soil at Denver International Airport. It is the first time the NCAA National Championship trophy for lacrosse has gone to a team that wasn't located in the Eastern Time Zone, and isn't part of a state that touches the Atlantic Ocean.

Hutton family enjoys softball legacy for CSU Rams
Former Colorado State softball player Chris Hutton never pressured any of her three daughters to attend CSU in order to play for the same school she did. But she doesn't mind that's the way it worked out, either. Senior outfielder Taylor Hutton, sophomore shortstop Haley Hutton, and incoming Rams recruit Bridgette Hutton all followed in their mother's footsteps in playing softball for Colorado State.

Jameson Axford was wheeled to the mound at Coors Field by his mother, Nicole.

East All-Stars sweep HBCA Classic
Floyd Central’s Madison Kaiser scored 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, earning the MVP honor and powering the East to a 90-84 victory over the West at Bloomington North. After losing to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, a group of unique athletes arrived at Pepsi Center to give the Denver Nuggets some much-needed perspective. The loss from the night before soon became a distant memory.
