MUSKEGON, MI – Prosecutors in Muskegon County will not offer a plea deal to a mother charged with killing her 6-year-old daughter in a drunken crash, setting the stage for a weeklong trial next year. The trial against Sandra Samantha Saldana is scheduled for Jan. 25-29, 2027, in Muskegon County Circuit Court. The 37-year-old appeared Monday, June 29, in Judge Annette Smedley’s courtroom for a final status conference.

ROTHBURY, MI – Michigan State Police are concerned for the wellbeing of a woman who gave birth to a baby found dead on Sunday in a portable bathroom in the camping area at Electric Forest. Some details – like if the baby died in the porta-potty at the music festival or was stillborn – are still unclear as the investigation entered its second day Monday, Michigan State Police Lt. Pat Agema told MLive/Muskegon Chronicle. Investigators are examining whether the death was criminal in nature, he said.
