GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Greensboro’s Labauer Park will transform into a soccer fan’s paradise on Friday night, starting at 6:00 prior to the World Cup match featuring Team USA and Paraguay at 9:00. The event will be shown on a 26-foot-tall projector, making its debut. “This will be the first event of its kind here, we are expecting thousands of people to be here for the event,” said Jack Gentry Jr., Executive Director of Downtown Parks Inc.

16-year-old killed in shooting on Lynhaven Drive in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The Greensboro Police Department is investigating a homicide after a 16-year-old was killed in a double shooting. At around 9:28 p.m. on Wednesday, officers came to the 3500 block of Lynhaven Drive and found two people with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 16-year-old Malachi Holmes, died as a result of his injuries. The second victim was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

German soccer team selects Winston-Salem as home base for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Wake Forest University and The Graylyn Estate will serve as the team’s official training site and headquarters. The team arrived on Monday. As part of the partnership, the German team is staying at The Graylyn Estate and training at WFU’s W. Dennie Spry Soccer Stadium. A veteran groundskeeper was flown into North Carolina from Germany to maintain the World Cup training ground at WFU, Reuters reports.
