The Anthropic IPO Is Also a Doomsday Primer
Anthropic has officially filed the prospectus for its initial public offering, which means the AI lab has put all kinds of formerly private information on display. While the prospectus contains the eye-popping revenue—and even larger expenditures—you might expect, the biggest section of the filing by far is given over to “risk factors,” which are all the things that could squash Anthropic’s big plans. Or, in this case, humanity itself.

We Got Hot and Heavy With Meta’s Muse—and Baffled by Apple’s HomeView
Reece Rogers: Not hard at all. Not hard in the least. Our features director, Reyhan, was in the office recently and asked if she could see them, and she was a bit shocked. So I feel like we'll leave it at that. But it was not some kind of jailbreak method. I was not doing any kind of random strategies. I asked, "Can you sext?" And I said, "You go first." And the rest is history. Brian Barrett: And if anything, it kept encouraging you.

How Massive Is Elon Musk’s Trillion-Dollar Fortune? Spend It Yourself
On any given day, Elon Musk is worth about a trillion dollars. This does not mean that he has a trillion dollar bills sitting in an old-timey vault in a dusty basement somewhere; his wealth is mostly tied up in shares of SpaceX and Tesla. But if he were to cash those out, sell Neuralink and the Boring Company, and scrounge together some extra change, his checking account would hit 13 digits. “Trillionaire” is an easy enough word to say. It’s fun, even! Rolls off the tongue.

Trump’s ‘Morally Binding’ AI ‘Accord,’ the Rise of AI Agents, and Extremists on the Ballot
Zoë Schiffer: This is a conversation? Brian Barrett: It is though. So I'm talking over you because— Zoë Schiffer: No, no, do it. Brian Barrett: I'm joking, but the whole point of I think the fact that they're making these so cutesy and fluffy and adorable is obviously intentional.

El plan de seguridad de EE UU para la IA es que las empresas se vigilen solas. Qué puede salir mal
Aquí tienes una interesante lección de historia. Y no te preocupes, será breve. En 1966, casi 51,000 personas fallecieron en las carreteras de EE UU. Las pruebas abrumadoras sugerían que se podrían haber salvado muchas vidas con los modernos cinturones de seguridad, que por entonces ya llevaban varios años en el mercado.

Whatever AI Safety Is, It’s Not This
Here’s a fun history lesson for you. Don’t worry, we’ll make it quick! In 1966, nearly 51,000 people died on US highways. The overwhelming evidence suggested that many lives could have been saved with modern seat belts, which by then had been around for several years. The automotive industry responded by rallying together, and, in a triumph of self-regulation, voluntarily put the safety feature in every new vehicle that rolled off the line. Kidding! Of course they didn’t do that.

This week on Uncanny Valley, an AI researcher’s resignation from Anthropic went viral on social media after he claimed there’s a real chance AI could wipe out humanity within a decade. The company has agreed to pay up to $16.7 billion to 51 US states and territories and make substantive product changes for how teens engage with its platforms.
China Is Strapping ‘Digital Bombs’ to Civilian Infrastructure—Is the US Ready?
Earlier this year, insurance executives gathered in a Times Square conference room to play out a scenario: a Chinese cyberattack knocks out 5,000 US water utilities at once. If you think that’s a far-fetched scenario, think again. WIRED’s Andy Greenberg got rare access to the closed-door war game and walked away with some disturbing conclusions.

OK, Well, Rogue AI Agents Are Hacking Again
Gaby Raila, an OpenAI spokesperson, says the incidents announced on Tuesday “occurred during cyber evaluations conducted by evaluation partners in testing environments with reduced safeguards, under conditions that do not reflect ordinary use.” Anthropic said in a social media post on Tuesday that AISI did not “impose any specific restrictions on how the internet should be used,” which coupled with “the removal of safeguards meant that the models were tested under ‘deliberately permissive...
