Inflation hit its highest level in three years, driven in part by a sharp jump in gas prices, according to a new report from the Labor Department. The Consumer Price Index rose to 4.2 percent, up from 3.8 percent the previous month. That is the highest rate since April 2023. Gas prices are up 40.5 percent compared to last year, while airfare has climbed 26.7 percent. Economists say the war in Iran is playing a major role in the increases.

Broward callers will soon be able to live stream video to 911 dispatchers with new overhaul of county's system

Big changes are on the way for how residents can reach 911 in Broward County. On Tuesday, the Broward County Commission unanimously approved a major overhaul of the 911 dispatch system. The system is designed to improve location accuracy and will allow callers to send recorded videos and even live-stream video directly to dispatchers. "Before we would call 911, the person would answer the phone, ' Where are you?

Saving the Hillsboro Lighthouse: Community unites to preserve historic Florida beacon

For more than 100 years, the Hillsboro Lighthouse has stood watch along the shoreline. "This is the oldest monument in Broward County. It was manufactured in 1906, turned on here in 1907, and since then, it has been something that everybody looks forward to seeing," said Ken Herman, Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society president. Now, corrosion is threatening its future. The Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society has been raising funds to restore it to its former glory.
