Linn County News Published April 8, 2026 Tevina Marie Eicher, age 46, Mound City, Kan., passed away Monday, March 23, 2026. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. April 4, 2026, to celebrate Tevina and her recently deceased mother, Vickie. There was a visitation beginning at 12 p.m. until service time. The gathering was held at the First Baptist Church, Mound City. Memorial contributions are suggested to Tevina Eicher Memorial Fund. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

Linn County News Published March 4, 2026 Bernard Thomas "Tom" Brownback was born on a farm in Centerville, Kan., the fifth child born to William Earl and Kezia Ellen (Reynolds) Brownback on Oct. 6, 1938. He passed away on his farm in rural Blue Mound, Kan., on Feb. 27, 2026, at the age of 87. Tom started at the Farlinville, Kan., county school then later attended elementary school in Centerville. He attended Parker, Kansas High School and graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1956.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Tahlequah Daily Press. My boss said, "I'll give you an article. If I like it, you're hired. If I don't, you're fired." No pressure.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! But not for journalism. I'm what Jaboukie Young-White calls a 'vintage millennial,' which means we had typewriters when I was in diapers

How is social media changing news?

People now want news immediately and free. They complain, "Why do newspapers have paywalls?" Well, we never handed out free papers either.
