Brian Howey is an award-winning reporter based in Oakland, Calif. With five years of experience covering homelessness, policing and extremism, his work has appeared in the Washington Post, WIRED, the Los Angeles Times and various other national, regional and local publications. Howey currently works as a freelancer covering policing and science issues. He earned his master’s degree from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, where he studied investigative reporting and narrative writing…

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Microsoft Word, Public Records, Excel, Tableau, Pro Tools, Photoshop and Lightroom, Zoom H4N and a good 'ole reporter's notepad.
