NationalRadioDay blew up on social media this year. Thursday's annual event was celebrated on the airwaves across America as well as locally. Those of us who have been on the air each have a unique story about how the radio bug "bit" us. Reading Facebook posts and comments from my friends who I share this vocation with has been a great trip down memory lane. Palm Springs was a robust radio market where Eric Ornelas cut his teeth doing a mix show after school.

New York City lawmakers are pushing to repeal a decades-old prohibition on adult bathhouses, arguing the regulation was created during the height of the AIDS crisis and no longer reflects modern science or public health practices. Erik Bottcher, the openly gay New York state senator who represents the 47th District that includes the Upper West Side, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen and portions of the West Village in Manhattan, is leading the charge to remove the decades-old ban.

Yes. When I first started as a reporter in 1973 in High School, we used the then very modern IBM Selectric 2 typewriters.

How is social media changing news?

Drastically and in some ways not well. With the news cycles now in literally nanoseconds, reporters need to keep up but still be accurate.
