I graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa with a BA in English and history with a minor in reading.
I taught English, history and journalism for 11 years. I also taught at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University summer high school journalism workshops.
For 27 years, I was a regional director for the Iowa State Education Association. My job was to bargain and represent public education employees.

I’m still wondering about a lot of the same things, and my wondering has been updated in recent walks. If you’ve had the chance to walk with 4-year-olds, you’ll understand what pure wonder looks like. Their eyes widen as they purse their lips. They touch the newfound object, and stare for what seems like hours.

I’m a proud Andy Griffith Show nerd. I know the next line in the dialogue, and even after the 20th time watching, I cackle like it’s the first. I’ve visited Mount Airy, North Carolina, the real Mayberry for the Andy Griffith Festival, rode in the squad car, played with the siren, and visited the courthouse. When I was working after a stressful day, I’d watch a couple of episodes, and it calmed me down. It was better than any pill. kAm~?6 @7 >J E@A E6?
