Ulaanbaatar, June 18, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Filmmakers of Mongolia have won five "Golden Cups" at the "Golden FEMI" International Film Festival, which is held annually under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. The festival was first organized in 2023 to unite international feature and documentary filmmakers and expand cultural relations. The 2026 awards ceremony for the festival took place on June 6 in Sofia.

Aberrance was directed by Baatar Batsukh and written by Baatar Batsukh, Byambasuren Ganbat, Trevor Doyle, Alex Khan, and Erdene Orosoo. That is a lot of writing credits, and the funny thing is this isn’t particularly dialogue-heavy. If you’re concerned there may be too many cooks in the kitchen, let me assure you the writing feels cohesive from start to finish.

One of the best parts of film festivals is being exposed to foreign films, especially those from countries many audience members might never have seen a film from. This year’s Overlook Film Festival brought audiences an all new thriller from Mongolia called Aberrance. This is the first Mongolian film to grace the silver screen at the Overlook Film Festival.
