Central Blood Pressure and Augmentation Index in Older Adults With Intellectual Disabilities
1 Introduction Older adults with intellectual disabilities are at a higher cardiovascular risk than their peers in the general population. Similar to the general population, prevalence rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in older adults with intellectual disabilities vary greatly and are largely based on electronic health records, which tend to underestimate prevalence particularly in this population due to underdiagnosis (Jansen et al. 2013; Haveman et al. 2011).
Xenoline-polarized macrophages as an alternative in vitro model of tumor-associated macrophages in glioblastoma - Acta Neuropathologica Communications
Advances in GBM research have been hindered by limitations of preclinical models that fail to accurately replicate the tumor’s complex microenvironment. Traditional macrophage models often lack the cellular diversity and structural organization seen in GBM, leading to discrepancies between preclinical findings and clinical outcomes.

RING1 missense variants reveal sensitivity of DNA damage repair to H2A monoubiquitination dosage during neurogenesis - Nature Communications
Abstract Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) modifies chromatin through catalysis of histone H2A lysine 119 monoubiquitination (H2AK119ub1). RING1 and RNF2 interchangeably serve as the catalytic subunit within PRC1. Pathogenic missense variants in PRC1 core components reveal functions of these proteins that are obscured in knockout models.
Tree species diversity drives the land surface phenology of seasonally dry tropical woodlands
1 INTRODUCTION Foliage forms the primary interface between the vegetated land surface, the atmosphere and incoming solar radiation (Gu et al., 2003; Penuelas et al., 2009). Seasonal cycles of foliage production (leaf phenology) play an important role in regulating global carbon, water and nitrogen cycles (Garonna et al., 2016).

Altered oral microbiome in Sudanese Toombak smokeless tobacco users carries a newly emerging risk of squamous cell carcinoma development and progression | Scientific Reports
Abstract There are an estimated 6–10 million smokeless tobacco (Toombak) users in Sudan, the majority being males. Toombak is known to be a carcinogenic product that is likely to modify the oral microbiome spatiality into a high-risk potential for the development and progression of oral cancer, but previous studies are lacking in this field.
Effect of long-term caloric restriction on DNA methylation measures of biological aging in healthy adults from the CALERIE trial
Abstract The geroscience hypothesis proposes that therapy to slow or reverse molecular changes that occur with aging can delay or prevent multiple chronic diseases and extend healthy lifespan1,2,3. Caloric restriction (CR), defined as lessening caloric intake without depriving essential nutrients4, results in changes in molecular processes that have been associated with aging, including DNA methylation (DNAm)5,6,7, and is established to increase healthy lifespan in multiple species8,9.

Vertical transfer of antibiotics and antibiotic resistant strains across the mother/baby axis
Highlights Antibiotic resistance is a global issue, and transfer of antibiotic-resistance genes can occur through horizontal and vertical transmission. Mother is a major source of microbiome for infants, with occurrence of vertical transmission from mother to infants now established. Transfer of antibiotic-resistance genes through vertical transmission is not well studied, despite the usage of antibiotics during pregnancy and infancy.

We can reduce post-harvest losses
From infestation to mold, inadequate storage facilities often lead to large grain losses in many countries, hampering efforts to improve national food security for the poorest families. Even efforts by national governments across Africa to store grain in large quantities have often yielded disappointing results. These are some of the challenges that more than 100 experts from 15 countries are mulling over at the first Africa Strategic Grain Reserve Conference being held in Nairobi this week.
A phase I trial of panobinostat and epirubicin in solid tumors with a dose expansion in patients with sarcoma
|
Background Treatment options for sarcoma are limited. Histone deacetylase inhibitors increase the efficacy of topoisomerase II inhibitors by promoting access to chromatin and by down-regulating DNA repair. Thus, combined panobinostat and epirubicin therapy was evaluated to treat refractory sarcoma.
