Upcoming MVP Race
The NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) is the most sought-after award in the league. Every year, analysts vote on who they think the best overall player in the NBA is. The reason that the MVP is the most sought after award is because of the fact that it is not based on statistics but rather the opinion of the broadcasters and analysts of the league. To win the MVP, you don’t have to average the most points and rebounds. Instead, you need to be the best player on a night-in, night-out basis.

First-ever barcode is focus of award-winning photographer Cade Martin campaign for Smithsonian Magazine
I’m a broken record on collaboration, so when my frequent partner Jeff Campagna at Smithsonian Magazine asked me to check out this project, I was quick to pull in amazing talent in the folks at POP Creative to see if they would be interested in teaming up to give a supermarket scanner its due. Did you know the first supermarket scanner was used at a Marsh’s supermarket in Ohio in 1974? And that the first item scanned was a pack of gum? Now you do.

Cade Martin captures the timeless “Faces of Cuba” through personal exploration
By Cade Martin I recently returned from a trip to Cuba that I made with Cuba Workshops. The primary goal of Cuba Workshops is to connect travelers with the Cuban people and support them with our time and photography. We stayed with welcoming Cuban families throughout the trip and had experiences that will last a lifetime – it was a great adventure. One of the amazing things to experience was the warmth, hospitality and friendliness of the Cuban people, despite unenviable economic circumstances.
Where talent meets heart: Cade Martin’s creative journey with hair & makeup stylist Dean Krapf and Friends
By Cade Martin Dean Krapf is a hair and makeup stylist, which is how we originally met. When you work with good people, they can become great friends. So, when Dean asked if I was interested in collaborating on a project for Lluminaire Salon which he owns with Mario Rentuma, I was quick to say yes. Beauty For Life is one of those projects where I get to work with people I adore, and where I’m reminded that I’m lucky enough to work in the profession that I do.
Gen Z Moving Out of Cities
by Randal OToole 07/06/2023 Remember the young people who supposedly loved cities and rejected the suburbs? It turns out they are the ones who have been fleeing the cities since the beginning of the pandemic. According to a recent analysis of census data, while the number of people in large cities declined by 0.9 percent since the pandemic began, the number of children under 5 — an indicator of young families — fell by more than 6 percent.
How the Bell X-1 Ushered in the Supersonic Age
It was arguably the most important flight since Kitty Hawk, and the plane was a perfection of form and function. Thirty feet 9 inches long, 10 feet 8½ inches high and 28 feet from wingtip to straight-razor wingtip, the Bell X-1 looked exactly like what had inspired its designers: a .50 caliber bullet. Square-jawed, slender and handsome, with a reassuringly laconic West Virginia drawl, U.S. Air Force Capt. Chuck Yeager sat in the cockpit as the ur-pilot, the epitome of the Right Stuff.
Brothers, Then and Now
Jessie Henderson, U.S. Air Force Cade Martin Thunderchief pilots of the Vietnam War Iwas 7 years old when the Vietnam War ended. I know about the war, as most my age do, from movies and documentaries. And most of what I encountered was about the ground troops, rarely about the pilots. So I jumped at the chance to attend a reunion in San Antonio for pilots who flew F-105 Thunderchief fighter-bombers on missions over North Vietnam during Operation Rolling Thunder, 1965-1968.
A Feathered Cape Worn by a Hawaiian Chief Tells a Story of Conflict and Tragedy
Dating back 200 years, the cloak represents the violence brought to the islands by colonial powers Chief Kekuakalani was defeated at the Battle of Kuamo'o on December 18, 1819, and his feather cloak was taken as a battle prize for his opponent and cousin, King Liholiho–King Kamehameha II.
Capturing Scenes
How did you get started in photography? My origin story. I grew up surrounded by painters, sculptors and printmakers in an artistic community in Richmond, Virginia. Without realizing it, I received my visual education in the everyday moments of my childhood. My parents took me to the movies from the time I was small, and I internalized a lot from the range of cinematography—before I even knew the word cinematography.
Portraits of Thunderchiefs, the Rolling Thunder Pilots of the Vietnam War
There are people who understand you well enough to challenge you but in that if-you’re-not-pushing-boundaries-you’re-not-doing-it-right kind of way — people you ultimately trust to have your back and your best interests at heart. Kate Chase, my friend, former rep and now producer, is one of those people. She’s the engine on my new project Over War. And while there were more than a few times that I was called to step outside of my comfort zone, I’m really glad I answered.
How Anthony Daniels Gives C-3PO an Unlikely Dash of Humanity
Did you hear that? They shut down the main reactors. We’ll be destroyed for sure. This is madness!” The first line spoken in the first Star Wars movie 40 years ago was delivered by a fussy android with a plummy pan-British accent. Since then, C-3PO—returning to the screen in The Last Jedi— has been bought, sold, blasted, dismantled, dismembered, imprisoned, exploded, rebuilt, rebooted and made an Ewok god. He is the expressionless and instantly recognizable gold-plated face of the franchise.
