Charles Minshew is currently a multimedia artist on the Interactive & Design team at the Orlando Sentinel. He's an alumnus of both the Missouri School of Journalism (M.A.) and Georgia Southern University (B.S. in Political Science). In 2012, he was a digital producing intern with The Denver Post and was on the staff that won a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Aurora theater shooting.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a freelance reporter for my local newspaper, the Cordele Dispatch, during high school.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. It was an electric one I was given as a gift when I was a kid. It doesn't work anymore unfortunately.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use QGIS, Microsoft Excel, Google Fusion Tables, Notepad ++ and code (Javascript, HTML, CSS) on a daily basis when creating graphics.

Awarded to The Denver Post Staff for its comprehensive coverage of the mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., that killed 12 and injured 58, using journalistic tools, from Twitter and Facebook to video and written reports, both to capture a breaking story and provide context.
