SARS-CoV-2 SUD2core promotes neutrophil-mediated inflammation by disabling HEBP2-mediated restraint on granule exocytosis
Keywords SARS-CoV-2 SUD2core HEBP2 protein interaction granule exocytosis Research topic(s) CP: immunology Introduction In contrast to asymptomatic or mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a substantial proportion of patients progress to severe disease, manifesting as pneumonia and respiratory failure triggered by dysregulated inflammatory responses to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.1,2 This excessive inflammation, largely mediated by neutrophil...
China Protocol for early screening, precise diagnosis, and individualized treatment of lung cancer - Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy
Abstract Early screening, diagnosis, and treatment of lung cancer are pivotal in clinical practice since the tumor stage remains the most dominant factor that affects patient survival. Previous initiatives have tried to develop new tools for decision-making of lung cancer.
Multi-omics analyses reveal biological and clinical insights in recurrent stage I non-small cell lung cancer - Nature Communications
Abstract Post-operative recurrence rates of stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) range from 20% to 40%. Nonetheless, the molecular mechanisms underlying recurrence hitherto remain largely elusive. Here, we generate genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic profiles of paired tumors and adjacent tissues from 122 stage I NSCLC patients, among which 57 patients develop recurrence after surgery during follow-up.
Data-driven risk stratification and precision management of pulmonary nodules detected on chest computed tomography - Nature Medicine
Abstract The widespread implementation of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in lung cancer screening has led to the increasing detection of pulmonary nodules. However, precisely evaluating the malignancy risk of pulmonary nodules remains a formidable challenge. Here we propose a triage-driven Chinese Lung Nodules Reporting and Data System (C-Lung-RADS) utilizing a medical checkup cohort of 45,064 cases.
Investigating causal associations between pneumonia and lung cancer using a bidirectional mendelian randomization framework - BMC Cancer
In the bidirectional two-sample MR analyses, we adopted SNPs as IVs based on GWAS summary statistics from publicly available databases and recently published meta-analyses of GWAS data. To reduce the overlap in research population of exposure and outcome, we obtained GWAS datasets from two distinct European ancestry cohorts.
Case Report: Termination of unplanned pregnancy led to rapid deterioration of non-small-cell lung cancer during osimertinib treatment
Introduction In recent decades, lung cancer has remained the most lethal type of cancer. According to the 2020 global cancer statistics (1), there were 1.8 million deaths from lung cancer, far surpassing other cancer types and posing a serious threat to people’s health and lives. While lung cancer frequently occurs in individuals over the age of 60, its incidence has been gradually increasing in the younger female population in recent years (2, 3).
Persistent increase and improved survival of stage I lung cancer based on a large-scale real-world sample of 26,226 cases.
Lung cancer prevails and induces high mortality around the world. This study provided real-world information on the evolution of clinicopathological profiles and survival outcomes of lung cancer, and provided survival information within finer stage I subtypes. Patients pathologically confirmed with lung cancer between January 2009 and December 2018 were identified with complete clinicopathological information, molecular testing results, and follow-up data.
From tuberculosis bedside to bench: UBE2B splicing as a potential biomarker and its regulatory mechanism - Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy
Abstract Alternative splicing (AS) is an important approach for pathogens and hosts to remodel transcriptome. However, tuberculosis (TB)-related AS has not been sufficiently explored. Here we presented the first landscape of TB-related AS by long-read sequencing, and screened four AS events (S100A8-intron1-retention intron, RPS20-exon1-alternaitve promoter, KIF13B-exon4-skipping exon (SE) and UBE2B-exon7-SE) as potential biomarkers in an in-house cohort-1.
A deep-learning pipeline for the diagnosis and discrimination of viral, non-viral and COVID-19 pneumonia from chest X-ray images
Abstract Common lung diseases are first diagnosed using chest X-rays. Here, we show that a fully automated deep-learning pipeline for the standardization of chest X-ray images, for the visualization of lesions and for disease diagnosis can identify viral pneumonia caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and assess its severity, and can also discriminate between viral pneumonia caused by COVID-19 and other types of pneumonia.
Clinically Applicable AI System for Accurate Diagnosis, Quantitative Measurements, and Prognosis of COVID-19 Pneumonia Using Computed Tomography
Highlights • AI system that can diagnose COVID-19 pneumonia using CT scans • Prediction of progression to critical illness • Potential to improve performance of junior radiologists to the senior level • Can assist evaluation of drug treatment effects with CT quantification Summary Many COVID-19 patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 virus develop pneumonia (called novel coronavirus pneumonia, NCP) and rapidly progress to respiratory failure.
