What was your first job as a journalist?
Informally, editor-in-chief of my middle school paper for 3 straight years. Formally, a feature story for a regional magazine.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Tintin or Kit Kittredge.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Pitching via email is always convenient, but I'll also have a look if you pitch via phone or socials.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was Head Copy Editor for one year and a reporter for two. I wrote multiple articles for every section, but enjoyed local news the most.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I'm most proud of my work on 2022's "Bloody January" in Kazakhstan. It was a deeply impactful story that transformed me as a journalist.
What's your favorite drink?
A cup of Lyons tea, courtesy of my Irish coworkers.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Depends. I aim to get my news from reputable sources closest to the event/topic I'm reading about, ie The Kyiv Independent for Ukraine news.
