Washington Avenue to get major upgrades in $5.4M Jackson project

JACKSON, MI – Jackson’s east side will see upgrades thanks to a nearly $4 million federal grant. During a Tuesday, April 21 Jackson City Council meeting, City Engineer Troy White presented plans to reconstruct Jackson’s East Side Commerce Corridor, which connects downtown with Page Avenue and U.S. 127. The corridor is a combination of Washington, Elm and Page avenues. “That’s why it qualified for the grant that we got. It moves a lot of cars,” White said.

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A Jackson County commissioner said he would “not apologize to any foreigner who doesn’t even speak our language” after a resident called for an apology during an April 23 board of commissioners meeting. District 1 Commissioner Tony Bair, a Republican, made the statement following public comment, where a resident said she took offense to remarks he made about immigrants in a previous meeting.

JACKSON, MI – Five candidates have filed to become the next mayor of Jackson. The city clerk’s office has confirmed the following candidates for the 2026 election. They will appear on the Aug. 4 primary ballot. The top two vote getters will move on to the November primary election. Jackson Mayor Christy May Davis Derek J. Dobies Shalanda Hunt Dena K. Morgan John Wilson Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney previously announced he will not seek an elected office in 2026 to focus on his family.
