The University Area Joint Authority broke ground of its Biosolids Project at the Authority’s facility in State College, Pennsylvania, on April 26, 2024. Authority members, staff, project team members and stakeholders met for the ceremony to highlight the benefits of the Biosolids Project and witnessed the demolition of its existing biosolids process. The Biosolids Project is expected to replace the current composting process with an advanced anaerobic digestion and biosolids drying process.

Woodsville Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) in Woodsville, New Hampshire, operated by H2O Innovation, operates on an extended aeration process with average flows of 0.25 million gallons per day (MGD). In the early 1990s, the plant installed a 0.7-meter belt filter press to supplement the plant’s drying beds. After abandoning the drying beds in the early 2000s, they went on to rely solely on the belt press.

Long before the Clean Water Act required communities to treat wastewater, the city of Bentonville, Arkansas, recognized wastewater treatment as a viable option for replenishing fresh water supplies and protecting waterways from harmful pollutants. The Bentonville Wastewater Treatment Utility has successfully treated wastewater in a single location since the 1940s. The latest renovation to the location, in 1985, created an Activated Sludge-Extended Aeration plant still in use today.
