Anelloviruses, a Potential Alternative to AAV for Gene Therapy
Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector-based gene therapy has provided a transformational new treatment modality for some genetic diseases, but the approach has some shortcomings. One of these is immunogenicity, which prevents redosing if the initial dose is insufficient or the effect of the therapy wears off over time. Ring Therapeutics is seeking to use anellovectors as potential alternatives to AAV vectors for gene therapy in order to address this issue.
Chris Wright, MD, PhD, on Anelloviruses, a Potential Alternative to AAV for Gene Therapy | CGTlive®
“We were looking in the body for different viruses that are persisting there, but not causing any problems. So, we did find a number of viruses, the anelloviruses. Anelloviruses actually make up about 80% of all the viruses in a person's body. And it turns out that that they've been there throughout all of the person's life, pretty much shortly after birth.
How Five Creatives Capture Place with Unconventional Art
From eclectic globes and maps to unique teas and watches, these artists explore the world outside the typical atlas. Illustration by Soeren Kunz Many of us capture our surroundings by snapping a photo or, on a vacation, perhaps picking up a postcard or springing for a local artist’s painting of a street scene. These are all great ways to portray and preserve a place, but as these five artists prove, they’re certainly not the only options.
Haaland, Messi, Ronaldo among stars enjoying their holidays - ESPN
When I first visited Sri Lanka in 2018, I was awestruck by its potential as a destination. If you read my first-ever story about that visit (where I circumnavigated the country using only a tuk-tuk), I reminisce about a time when the country’s tourism economy was surging and when visiting the empty golden stretches of sand was like being in Bali in the late 1980s. I’ve just visited again, and much of what I saw is the same.
How did we Solve the Problem of Hybrid Working?
Right now, there are two fundamental truths when it comes to getting people back into the office: Firstly, creative businesses in particular need to have people in the same space, working collaboratively and solving problems together. Secondly, the world of work has changed and people have different needs and priorities now. Individually and collectively, we are all looking for something that diverges from the traditional office.

African swine fever: No treatment yet
Biosecurity and Hygiene Treatments and prevention Processing Vaccine progress is being made Dustin Oedekoven, DVM and chief veterinarian with the National Pork Board, spoke to The Pig Site's Sarah Mikesell about the risk that African swine fever poses to the US. These labs make tech to promote hope, not hostility
Among the “courageous missions” Himelfarb describes is a mobile app in Syria that maps the trajectory of missiles, a digital network in the US to help evacuate and resettle displaced Afghans, an interactive map that tracks attacks on Iraqi citizen journalists, and an app in India that sends an alarm and location details to the friends and family of gender violence victims—the latter developed by a small group of 13-year-old girls using a free online app maker.

Resisting Fascism
A Review of Shane Burley’s Why We Fight: Essays on Fascism, Resistance, and Surviving the Apocalypse The elevation of Donald Trump onto the national political stage in 2016 provoked a heated debate among centrist and left-wing commentators that has yet to be resolved (and likely never will be): do Trump and the Republican Party today represent a recrudescence of fascism, or is this a flawed historical analogy?
Woke Pentagon: Get Thee In Front of Me, Satan
The U.S. Army used a PowerPoint slide listing the seven tenets of Satanism to justify Joe Biden’s COVID vaccine mandate for the U.S. military. The Army confirmed the slide was real but said it wasn’t approved by Army leadership. The explanation is as bizarre as the slide itself. Satanism? Wow, the Pentagon has truly lost its way. The tenets sound really sweet – “act with compassion and empathy toward all” – but the Tibetans have a proverb: Beware of honey offered on a sharp knife.

| Culture | 3h ago Across the Middle East, a new generation of digital artists is helping to elevate a medium that has long been derided as a creative hack, taken up by those who are unable (or too lazy) to do the real thing. Chill-out rooms on the moon? That’s the job of this Dubai-based space designer

Don't Mourn, Organize | Dissident Voice
We live in a paradoxical time. On the one hand, workers and organized labor are in their worst state since the early 1930s. Only 6.4 percent of private-sector workers belong to unions; average hourly pay is below what it was in 1973; 40 percent of adults lack the savings to pay for a $400 emergency expense. On the other hand, there is more excitement and organizing potential on the left, and among many workers, than there has been in generations.
