José Mourinho named Real Madrid coach 13 years after first stint

Real Madrid have confirmed the appointment of José Mourinho for a second spell as the club's coach after ratifying the departure of Álvaro Arbeloa. The Spanish club confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Mourinho has signed a three-year contract at the Bernabéu. Mourinho, 63, returns to the Spanish club after a season in charge of Benfica, who had confirmed on Wednesday Madrid were willing to pay the €15 million compensation to release him from his contract in Portugal.

Barcelona sign 18-year-old World Cup striker Hamza Abdelkarim

Barcelona have completed the signing of Egypt international Hamza Abdelkarim from Al Ahly for an initial fee of €1.5 million ($1.7m), the two clubs have confirmed. Abdelkarim, 18, initially joined Barça on loan in January but the club have decided to make the move permanent after a string of impressive performances for the youth teams.

Barcelona are unlikely to activate the €30 million ($34.8m) option to make Marcus Rashford's loan from Manchester United permanent, but coach Hansi Flick will have the final say with Monday's deadline to make a decision looming, sources have told ESPN. Barça have until June 15, as originally revealed by ESPN in April, to tell United if they want to commit to the deal, which is payable in three instalments of €10m.
