Chris Landers’s Biography

I'm the managing editor of Chesapeake Bay Magazine, a nearly 50 year old magazine covering everything to do with the bay, from Skipjacks to crab cakes.
Every newspaper I've worked for has gone out of business. I do not think these things are related.
Also, I am not the excellent baseball writer who has the same name as me, no matter what Muckrack tries to tell you, but I do have season tickets to the Orioles.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Police reporter at the Manassas Journal Messenger (RIP).

Have you ever used a typewriter?

I spent several years on a wooden boat sailing around the Atlantic. I brought a portable Olivetti that my parents gave me, and used it a lot.

How is social media changing news?

It's making it worse.
