Cuproptosis inducers mediate cold lethality via SLCR-46.1 in C. elegans
Abstract Cuproptosis denotes cell death triggered by copper accumulation. However, its role in natural environmental responses remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that cuproptosis contributes to cold-induced lethality in C. elegans. A mutant for the lysosomal copper transporter gene slcr-46.1 exhibited defective cold tolerance due to copper accumulation in the pharyngeal muscle upon cold exposure.

Together
My mind went blank. Surely the message alert was about a drill, another routine alarm test from Brown University, like so many before. “Urgent: There’s an active shooter near Barus & Holley Engineering. Lock doors, silence phones, and stay hidden until further notice. Remember: RUN—if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can. HIDE—if evacuation is not possible, take cover. FIGHT—as a last resort, take action to protect yourself. Stay tuned for further safety information.”
Profiling the proteome-wide selectivity of diverse electrophiles - Nature Chemistry
Abstract Covalent inhibitors that do not rely on hijacking enzymatic activity have mainly been limited to those targeting cysteine residues. The development of such cysteine-directed covalent inhibitors has greatly profited from the use of competitive residue-specific proteomics to determine their proteome-wide selectivity. Several probes have been developed to monitor other amino acids using this technology, and many more electrophiles exist to modify proteins.
An Inverse Electron-Demand Diels–Alder Approach to Selective Activity-Based Sensing of Acetaldehyde in Living Cells
Acetaldehyde (AA) is a highly reactive and toxic two-carbon metabolite that can cause extensive cellular damage when not efficiently metabolized. It readily forms covalent adducts with DNA, proteins, and lipids, leading to impaired biomolecular function, oxidative stress, and genomic instability. (1−3) In particular, AA can induce DNA–protein cross-links and mutagenic DNA lesions, which interfere with replication and repair processes and ultimately promote carcinogenesis.
Evaluating Graduate Medical Education Meetings Using a Modified Nominal Group Technique
Objectives: Despite the critical oversight role that the graduate medical education committee (GMEC) plays in Graduate Medical Education (GME), there has been little examination and assessment of the most effective way to conduct GMEC meetings to establish best practices and optimize efficacy.

Philosophy as a way of life
We are all philosophers in one way or another; the issue is that we don’t always consolidate ourselves as such. The one possible problem is that many times we don’t take into account that we need to apply the knowledge we’ve learned. Yesterday I was at a discussion group of a philosophical school in my country, which I must mention was a completely pleasant and interesting experience. In that conversation, many things passed through my mind: the meaning of many things, how we are living.
SEED-Selection enables high-efficiency enrichment of primary T cells edited at multiple loci - Nature Biotechnology
Abstract Engineering T cell specificity and function at multiple loci can generate more effective cellular therapies, but current manufacturing methods produce heterogenous mixtures of partially engineered cells. Here we develop a one-step process to enrich unlabeled cells containing knock-ins at multiple target loci using a family of repair templates named synthetic exon expression disruptors (SEEDs).

Apoliprotein E-mediated ferroptosis controls cellular proliferation in chronic lymphocytic leukemia - Leukemia
Abstract Unraveling vulnerabilities in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) represents a key approach to understand molecular basis for its indolence and a path toward developing tailored therapeutic approaches. In this study, we found that CLL cells are particularly sensitive to the inhibitory action of abundant serum protein, apolipoprotein E (ApoE). Physiological concentrations of ApoE affect CLL cell viability and inhibit CD40-driven proliferation.
Leishmania major-induced alteration of host cellular and systemic copper homeostasis drives the fate of infection - Communications Biology
Abstract Copper plays a key role in host-pathogen interaction. We find that during Leishmania major infection, the parasite-harboring macrophage regulates its copper homeostasis pathway in a way to facilitate copper-mediated neutralization of the pathogen. Copper-ATPase ATP7A transports copper to amastigote-harboring phagolysosomes to induce stress on parasites. Leishmania in order to evade the copper stress, utilizes a variety of manipulative measures to lower the host-induced copper stress.

Trends in Firearm Injury Prevention Research Funding, Clinical Trials, and Publications in the US, 1985-2022
In 1996, the US Congress passed the Dickey Amendment, effectively removing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) ability to fund firearm injury prevention research. Similar limitations were placed on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2011. These restrictions chilled firearm injury prevention research funding and publications.1-3 In 2013 and 2018, the Dickey Amendment’s meaning was clarified.
Ultra-high efficiency T cell reprogramming at multiple loci with SEED-Selection

However, current manufacturing methods produce heterogenous mixtures of partially engineered cells. Here, we develop a one-step process to enrich for unlabeled cells with knock-ins at multiple target loci using a family of repair templates named Synthetic Exon/Expression Disruptors (SEEDs).
Capturing copper to inhibit inflammation - Nature Chemical Biology
A study has now shown that copper ions can drive inflammation via a mitochondrial signaling pathway that regulates epigenetic states of immune cells. This pathway could offer a new route for treating inflammatory diseases. Inflammation is an essential biological defense mechanism that clears harmful stimuli and initiates tissue repair, but excess inflammatory immune responses contribute to tissue damage in a diverse array of diseases1.

Supramolecular Enhancement of Electrochemical Nitrate Reduction Catalyzed by Cobalt Porphyrin Organic Cages for Ammonia Electrosynthesis in Water
Abstract The electrochemical nitrate (NO3ˉ) reduction reaction (NO3RR) to ammonia (NH3) represents a sustainable approach for denitrification to balance global nitrogen cycles and an alternative to traditional thermal Haber-Bosch processes. Here, we present a supramolecular strategy for promoting NH3 production in water from NO3RR by integrating two-dimensional (2D) molecular cobalt porphyrin (CoTPP) units into a three-dimensional (3D) porous organic cage architecture.

The Paris Review - The Dust - The Paris Review
By Christopher Chang April 11, 2023 Home Improvements Where I live is about twenty minutes from anywhere else in Los Angeles. What this actually means is that I live ten minutes from anything when there’s no traffic, and forty-five minutes when there is. In reality, there’s no given instance during the day when I actually live twenty minutes from any geographical point in LA, but it’s an easy way to say I live in the middle of town.
Metalloallostery and Transition Metal Signaling: Bioinorganic Copper Chemistry Beyond Active Sites
Graphical Abstract Metalloallostery, where metals regulate protein function through binding to a remote allosteric exosite rather than an active site, expands the roles of metals in biological chemistry. Using copper as a canonical example, we summarize advances in the field through imaging tools for labile metal pools, positive and negative allosteric transition metal signaling, and copper-dependent regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis.
Chang ’23: What it means to be Taiwanese
As I heard a student’s impassioned speech advocating for the forceful unification of my country, my frustration began to boil over. I rushed to the restroom, only to see my teary reflection staring back at me. Quickly drying my tears as the bathroom door opened, I wondered when I had lost my ability to compartmentalize my Taiwanese identity from my country’s political reality.
Guidelines for measuring reactive oxygen species and oxidative damage in cells and in vivo - Nature Metabolism
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a collective term for species derived from O2 that are more reactive than O2 itself. The term includes not only the superoxide radical anion (O2•−) and some other oxygen radicals, but also some non-radical derivatives of O2 such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and peroxynitrite/peroxynitrous acid (ONOO−/ONOOH).
A puromycin-dependent activity-based sensing probe for histochemical staining of hydrogen peroxide in cells and animal tissues - Nature Protocols
Abstract Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a key member of the reactive oxygen species family of transient small molecules that has broad contributions to oxidative stress and redox signaling. The development of selective and sensitive chemical probes can enable the study of H2O2 biology in cell, tissue and animal models.

Tuning Second Coordination Sphere Interactions in Polypyridyl-Iron Complexes to Achieve Selective Electrocatalytic Reduction of Carbon Dioxide to Carbon Monoxide | Inorganic Chemistry
The development of noble-metal-free catalysts capable of electrochemically converting carbon dioxide (CO2) selectively into value-added compounds remains one of the central challenges in catalysis research. Here, we present a systematic study of Fe(II) complexes of the functionalized ligands bpyRPY2Me (bpyPY2Me = 6-(1,1-bis(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl)-2,2′-bipyridine) in the pursuit of water-stable molecular Fe complexes that are selective for the catalytic formation of CO from CO2.

Spatial separation of triplet excitons drives endothermic singlet fission
Abstract Molecules that undergo singlet fission, converting singlet excitons into pairs of triplet excitons, have potential as photovoltaic materials. The possible advantages of endothermic singlet fission (enhanced use of photon energy and larger triplet energies for coupling with common absorbers) motivated us to assess the role of exciton delocalization in the activation of this process.
Air Tahiti Nui Partner Award Availability Patterns
Hi All, Wondering if anybody has any insights into the award patterns of economy avails for Air Tahiti Nui from LAX -> PPT and PPT -> LAX in general. Reasoning for this is that I had found some flights I wanted on June as well as September, but by the time I had gotten around to booking them the space disappeared. Essentially, I'm trying to figure out if once Air Tahiti Nui pulls the partner award space, if that space is then gone for good or if they intermittently open up space over time. Chris
UR Points on French Bee / Air Caraibes
Has anyone had luck using their UR points booking on French Bee / Air Caraibes? The help desk agent (not the regular agent) is telling me that it cannot be done, even manually. I'm inclined to believe him, since I asked him about being able to book on other airlines that don't show up via the portal (ie. Frontier / SW / Sun Country / Norwegien) and he confimed that he could do those manually but not French Bee / Air Caraibes.
