Functional chimeric mRNAs encode proteins in mammalian immunity
Abstract Individual mammalian mRNAs and proteins are typically believed to originate from single genomic loci, with isoform diversity arising through cis-splicing of pre-mRNA. Whether mRNA from distant genes can undergo trans-splicing to generate functionally relevant chimeric transcripts has remained unclear. Here we develop a pipeline combining long-read direct RNA sequencing with non-targeted and targeted validation to identify chimeric transcripts in macrophages.

Enteric Nervous System-Derived IL-18 Orchestrates Mucosal Barrier Immunity
(Cell 180, 50–63.e1–e12; January 9, 2020) Our paper reported regulation of epithelial antimicrobial protein production by neuron-derived IL-18. After the review process and during the final preparation of Figure 1 prior to publication, we inadvertently duplicated the Il18f/f versus Il18f/fFlk1+ bacterial CFU data shown in Figure 1B and 1C and inserted the duplicate as the bacterial CFU of Il18f/f versus Il18f/fVil1+ in Figure 1E and 1F.
