Gardaí believe the threats to Tánaiste Simon Harris and his close family are not co-ordinated or directed by a single person or group. Investigators stress it is early in their inquiries but do not suspect links between the incidents or the people behind them. Officers are taking the threats - two on social media and a third involving hoax bomb phone calls - seriously and are making progress in their investigations.

GRA expected to vote no confidence in Drew Harris

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) is set to confirm on Wednesday morning that the majority of its members have voted no confidence in the Garda commissioner Drew Harris. The GRA polled 10,800 of its members asking them: "Do you have confidence in the Garda Commissioner?’ Yes or No". It is believed that the group will announce at around 11.30 this morning confirming that a majority have voted 'no'.

Man, 60, dies after alleged one-punch assault in Westport

Gardaí have gathered CCTV and witness evidence in relation to the death of a 60-year-old father who suffered an alleged one-punch assault in Westport, Co Mayo, on Saturday. It is understood that Peter McDermott, married with one adult child, may have hit his head off the ground after the blow. A local man, aged in his mid-20s, was arrested shortly after the incident and a major garda investigation swung into place while in was in custody.
