Death announced of well-known English Market businessman Jack Mulcahy

It has been announced that well known Cork businessman Jack Mulcahy has died. Mr Mulcahy spent much of his working life at the Chicken Inn, a business that became a familiar fixture in Cork’s English Market, and through which he became a well-known and respected figure in the city. Outside of business, Mr Mulcahy was “deeply involved in public and community life”, his family said in a statement released this week.

People urged to object to plans to demolish old Cork prison site

Residents of The Glen have urged the community to submit an objection to plans to demolish the old Cork prison building ahead of the closure of the consultation period this day next week. The Irish Prison Service (IPS), on behalf of the justice minister, has given notice of its intention to carry out demolition works at the old prison site.

'Number' of submissions for long-awaited Cork event centre to be evaluated

Cork City Council has received “a number” of submissions from parties interested in developing the long-awaited event centre, and said it is hoping to make significant progress this year. Councillors were told yesterday that the return date for suitability assessment (SAQ) questionnaire submissions from interested parties expired last Tuesday. “Shortlisting will follow evaluation of the SAQ submissions, in accordance with public procurement requirements,” said a council spokesperson.
