East Surry's Braxton Davis signs with Davidson, turns dream into Division I reality

PILOT MOUNTAIN — Braxton Davis made the most of his senior year at East Surry and found success across multiple sports. Davis starred on the football field, led the basketball team to its best season in more than a decade and helped bring home a state title in golf. He now looks to carry that success to the collegiate ranks as he continues his football career at Davidson College. "I'm excited," Davis said.

Eagles Nest Basketball Camp flies to new heights

DOBSON — What began as a basketball camp has morphed into a community event over the years. Nearly 140 young athletes made the trip to Dobson for the Eagles Nest Basketball Camp May 26-29, helping continue a tradition that has grown beyond basketball. The camp welcomed boys and girls from all Surry County school districts and beyond, while parents, former players and basketball fans packed the bleachers to be a part of the event.

East Surry’s Sayler Chappell signs with Emory & Henry

For much of her high school wrestling career, East Surry’s Sayler Chappell simply wanted a chance. A chance to improve, a chance to compete and a chance to prove she belonged on the mat. Now, after making school history and becoming one of the top women’s wrestlers in the 3A division, Chappell has earned the opportunity to continue wrestling at the collegiate level. Less than three years after competing in her first match, Chappell signed to wrestle at Emory & Henry University.
