The effects of extreme heat highlight disparities across Chicago neighborhood in more ways than one, according to recent studies. Areas with a healthy tree canopy can feel up to 10 degrees cooler than nearby areas without trees, experts say, and neighborhoods with lacking tree coverage tend to be under-resourced areas, that data has shown.

Monday marked the end of an era for a once-popular Chicago mall after the building closed its doors permanently following a decades-long run. So what's happens to the property now? "It’s really sad that the place is closing up. It was one of the last memories for us," said Cliff Kendrick, who used to frequent Ford City Mall with his dad. Kendrick was one of dozens who stopped by Monday to take pictures of the mall, and reminisce on its heyday. "I'm just thankful it was here," he said.
