More retail coming to match SE side housing boom

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — People used to think of Southeast Tucson and Southeast Pima County as remote without very many places to live or places to shop. Well there’s a housing boom right now and retail’s starting to catch up. A McDonalds that just opened is adding some sizzle to Houghton Road just north of Drexel. It’s the latest contribution to a base of retail to serve the demand that comes with a blazing boom of construction on the southeast side. The southeast has a good supply of vacant land.

The ribbon was cut but the road’s still delayed

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — It’s been tough to get on and off I-10 while ADOT was widening the freeway between Ina and Ruthrauff. A new link from River to I-10 was expected to open almost a month ago. When some KGUN viewers asked why the new Sunset Links road is not open we went to work. Sunset Links is designed to be an easy connection from River Road to I-10. We actually covered a ribbon cutting for this place early last month. But the ribbon cutting did not open the link for traffic.

Suspect in court in 50 year old cold case

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — We have fresh news on an old case—the death of a man who disappeared more than 50 years ago. Now his stepdaughter has appeared in court to be formally charged with his murder. Carol Beall was in court by video link from what appeared to be a hospital bed. She’s 79 years old and in jail unless she can post a half million dollars bond. She is charged in the death of her stepfather William Sipfle. He disappeared in 1975.
